Can we sort one out? Would someone be willing to collate a database online for all the forum attenders. Reason being...

I won the individual today at the N.E vs N.W with *whispers* 43 points, not so bad as keef had 41, but, I was almost too embarressed to get up and collect my trophey.

Now, I acknowledge I need a cut for this, I cant keep turning up to GM meets playing off 19. I know it is my official club handicap but I dont get chance to play in the medals and reduce it.

Most of the GM regular boys I play with will tell you 19 was about right for me up untill a couple of months or two ago but my game has come on leaps and bounds since then so the figure is far to high.

My Idea was that at any GM meet, all scores could be returned back to the forum and aslong as the card was marked by another forum member it could qualify for handicap purposes, obv everything would have to be holed out but most meets that happens anyway.

Well, I'll leave it open for discussion.

Does that mean your gonna give the trophey back ;-)

Seriously though i know what you mean, but how would it work if you didn't get in to many of the meets but you improved on a club level where you might play every week?

Would you just play the lowest of the 2 handicaps?

That is what I would like us all to discuss.

Some kind of rule maybe that says you will play off the lowest of the two or if your club handicap is lower than your GM one, the GM one will be adjusted to the same.

I didnt even want to collect the trophey, but in my defence, I played out of my skin today and had all the members bounces on my side!

Think HTL would be in line for a major cut then after his last 3 rounds with me!!

I think its a great idea but not sure how or who would manage it. What is the starting point? I guess your official club handicap or realistic and honest assessment if you are a nomad without an official handicap figure. Is it going to be only official GM meets (England v Scotland, Belfry, Royal Ascot, NE v NW etc) that count or if you are meeting another forum member for a game would you be expected to put in?

No mate it was a good score and from what i heard you played well for it. Its not a sill y score to get to win a comp of this nature. I don't think any one thought so.
.....besides some one had to win it.

Well done mate, is what i say.

You can swap your trophy for this if you want fella:

I know what you mean though, I'm not entirely sure it would work though to be honest as I dont think enough members will get to enough meets to make much of a difference.

I mean no malice in this next statement whatsoever fella, but there's nothing at all stopping you from going to a GM meet and playing off a handicap that you think is correct for you, just because your official handicap is high it doesnt mean you have to play to it does it?

That said, if there is a way we can do it then I reckon we should.

Says him who finished on 41 :D

Point is Keef, if I am going to turn up and play of a handicap that isn't my official one I may aswell play off one that is relevent. Cant be that hard surely, can it? I have no experience running societies etc but wouldn't it just work the same as that?

What is the par for the course? I shot an 83. If that was my home course (and the CSS was the same as the SSS) what would I be cut to?

I know that there is Banditry afoot at many open competitions and Corporate days etc as we've read on here, but at the end of the day if your official handicap is 19 I'd have no problem playing you off that number - until your handicap gets frozen coz you havn't put 3 cards in over the year!! :D :D

I'm off 10 but I can play to nearly scratch on a good day - does that mean i should be off 1 or 2 next April at RA?

I suppose if you're that worried about it then its up to you to play enough qualifying rounds to keep the handicap up to date - but hey! If you're buying the beers......

I know that you're being straight about all this. But I do have one question for you though.

If you're unable to play in h'cap adjusting medals, are you expecting to play in the club champs. Bearing in mind what you're saying?

Not an accusation, just curious, as I'm aware that this is one way that some might protect their h'cap.

And what handicap is Mr KeefG playing off, answer that and try not to get embbarrassed :D :D :D

Hapless, anyone that knows me, knows I dont play to win competitions, yes its nice, but my sole aim and reason I play, is to get to single figures. I guess, I might actually win one at some point and people will talk, but what can I do? I have too shoot as low as possible for the cut.

WIth my change of career and frantic change in social/work life i havn't had enough time to play in any quals at the club since I joined (and the only 1 I did I didnt even play to 19)

I probably wont play in the clubs major comps but who knows.

Lucky for me, one of my playing partners at the club is the Asst Pro, so he knows am no cheat!

Hang on, I have won 3 times at forum meets, I put in about 20 cards a year, I have a handicap of 11. That is it, I play off 11. I have been off 11/12/13 for 20 years. I am not sure I want, or need a GM handicap too. I already have a society handicap of 9, (which is an improvement as I used to be off 4).

If you shoot 43 off your current handicap, that is for your club to deal with. Did you put the card in for general play?

Any way, your handicap is your handicap, that is it.

Oh, and everyone has a hot couple of months when they think they have turned a corner, but it soon comes back to bite you in the ass. Enjoy it while it lasts.

Murph your probably right on the hot couple of months, but with a system in place you could go back up if need be. If you didnt want to opt into a GM society handicap then you wouldn't have to.

I think it would have to be an all or nothing system though wouldn't i?
I mean imagine if you opted out and then won with 46 points or so you would feel pretty embarressed then would you not?

My handicap on Golfers Diary (where I enter all my scores) before today was 17.6, I have just entered todays score and it has cut me to 16.9 so I now play off 17. ;)

Nice shooting Tony, did you get your card signed ? If you did, I think (and i'm sure i'll be corrected if i'm wrong) your club can cut you on general play. so 43 points would mean a 0.3 x 7 = 2.1 cut.
