Evening all,

For personal reasons ive had the worst weekend i have had for a very very long time. Not played golf either so I am sat here feeling very sorry for myself with the golf on TV trying to take my mind off things. Im a keen sportsman as is but obviously golf is top of the list. I've got a decent little collection of signed boxing items and even a fight worn Josh Warrington glove. Just wondering if anyone in here collects signed/round used golf gear? I'd love to see your items or collections. (Crow, that includes you and your probably unbelievable collection of classic clubs!)

And please give me any tips you have when starting out collecting and if you have any items you are looking to sell please PM me. Short of personally attending events, how do you go about it and what do you look out for?

Did have a couple of signed items but gave them away. They were obtained at tournaments.

The only thing I have now, apart from a small golf library, is a Titleist pitch repairer and ball-marker for the 2001 Ryder Cup. (Think about it!)

Sorry to hear about your weekend and hope the golf on TV has helped to cheer you up!

There's a huge range of golf related stuff that you can collect, from ball markers at courses you've played to clubs/gear of the stars.
Your budget will guide you to a large degree as to what you can collect and, as with all collectables, the market is prone to highs and lows.

10 or 20 years ago vintage/classic clubs were very much in vogue and prices were riding high but the last few years they've really nose dived and the only clubs with high prices now are the very rare or those played by top Pros, and provenance is needed to prove their association.

The market today seems to focus on competition memorabilia, passes, player money clips, programmes, trophies, etc from the big competitions.

Books are another huge area but again prices have plummeted recently, which is great if you're starting out!

My interest is clubs (primarily to play them, they are mainly by UK manufacturers and have little commercial value for reasons as mentioned above) but the downside with these is that they take a lot of space, as my wife will testify... I also have quite a few books plus odds and ends I've accumulated relating to my clubs.

You can specialise in any area and if you really want to get deep into collecting then it would be worth looking at joining the British Golf Collectors Society, as well as organising hickory golf competitions the members collect just about anything golf related between them.

ebay is a good place to start but as with all things ebay you need to be wary of what you're buying as there's a lot of junk out there. Finding genuine signed stuff would be difficult other than by auctions and formal sales etc.

The first thing to do is to decide exactly what you want to collect. :)

Sorry to the OP for the crap weekend. I've not got too much golf related stuff other than a Wimbledon Common Golf Club diary from the year Lyle won the Masters (88 from memory but stand to be corrected without digging it out) that he and Faldo signed after playing 200 yards down the road at Royal Wimbledon and me walking around with them, talking to them and even trying one of Faldo's clubs and a shot into the green (heavy doesn't start to describe the shaft). Got a signed photo from Monty after a golf clinic at Silvermere and did have a signed Lee Westwood shirt that I donated to the H4H auction a few years back

Cheers Crow and HomerJ ! Certainly not a nice weekend but its life so onwards and upwards.
Love the idea of collecting older gear but physical storage space doesn't allow, I am looking at collecting ball makers, singed gear, flags etc... Things I can hang in my cupboard or display on top of my drawers but I do worry about non genuine items like you stated so will keep my eyes peeled and see what comes up

I love sports memorabilia and hope to build a good collection as I get older and the kids don’t cost me as much.

My favourite golf related things I have at the moment are:

Fully signed Photo of the Ryder cup signed by every European player from the 2010 event (and also Monty). I got this signed personally in one day at Wentworth on a practice day

Signed Poulter polo shirt which I won in a competition

Signed lee Westwood polo

I also like to collect course planners from courses I’ve played.
Personally I wish I’d collected scorecards instead as it would have been a lot cheaper!

I’ve also got a 2017 & 2018 masters flag that I plan to get signed in the future

I collect cards, club logo balls, markers, course planners and bag tags.

Relatively cheap and cheerful. Personal to me.

Always kick myself if I forget a marker at a course I may not get back to for some time or even worse, sold out. Haha

My own (little) collection is only relevant to me. Every time I shoot better than handicap I buy something from the pro shop and it goes into a shoe box. Might just be a ball marker or repair tool, maybe just a logo ball etc but something I don't already have from whichever course it was
One day I'll get round to making a little display out of the bits & bobs (to show how crap I really was) but its fun to look through them now and again, and at least I know it'll never take over a whole room

I collect course planners from each course I play ... got around 50. Some courses have stopped doing them as they say GPS watches have made them obsolete, but I find that 80% of courses still have them. If I play abroad, I tend to buy the club’s golf towel too.

The walls of my mancave are covered in pretty much every course I've played scorecards, course planners, maps and photos/selfies on courses I've played around the world.Mates who travel know to bring me back ones from where they tee up on hols etc.No value whatsoever to anyone else but I love it! Best bit is every time they go to the fridge they are forced to look at me on the swilken bridge with a smug grin on my face, happy days

Back to this.... I've been looking at ball markers and pitch mark repairers "Divot tools". Particularly keen on Scotty Cameron and Tyson Lamb items. Also going to pick up a flag or two for the wardrobe.

Happily i've just picked up my first 2 Scotty Cameron tools this week! Ideal small items to keep and display. Anyone else have any?

I collect bits and pieces relevant ot my home club, ball markers, postcards, a few single clubs, old course guides. I am lucky enough to have picked up, for next to nothing, a playing set from the 1930s from Morecambe and the Pro at the time.
Most important is that every collection should have a focus, otherwise you wind up a with a load of unrelated detritus.

Got a few golf instruction books and amongst those are ones autographed by Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino, Sandy Lyle, Tom Watson (2), Sam Snead and Seve Ballesteros. One of the Tom Watson books and the Sam Snead book are addressed to me, the others just a straight autograph.

Also got an autographed Chelsea shirt from the 2005 from the 2005 Premier League winning season when I was part of the motorcycle escort for the bus parade.
