I'm thinking of getting myself fitted up and getting a set of irons.

However I don't really have the cash available at the moment but would ideally like to get them and get used to them before the golf season really starts!

So I'm thinking maybe going down the finance route, anyone had any good/bad experiences? Any good recommendations?

any thoughts welcome.

cheers

I am old fashioned I'm afraid.... if I don't have the funds, I save up until I do, then purchase.

I know Direct Golf do finance deals on new gear. Don't know what terms they offer but you could start there....

I DON'T BUY unless I've got the Cash £££ either
But if you're a member of a golf club with a Pro, if your area anything like mine in Newcastle, most let you order, put it on your account, and pay Regular instalments off

How feasible would it to be to sell your clubs 1st then putting that money forward to keep the costs down?

Years ago I did it with AGD and didn't have any issues... I know where you're coming from though all the new kit is coming out and I'd have bought some new clubs but for having a very expensive MOT/Service at the beginning of the month :o

Just had a quick look myself on direct golf: http://www.direct-golf.co.uk/v12finance/

I used v12 before when they gave me 0% to buy a new telly over 10 months. Made the purchase a lot easier. Great if you can find a deal where all payments are deferred and you have a designated date to pay the whole lot off in one go or else you revert to an interest rate finance deal. I've never gone later that the designated date though 'cos the interest rates are astronomical in comparison to most other finance deals.

Split your bag up into 4 sections and save and purchase each quarter.

My mate who I dragged into golf did a similar thing once he got hooked.

I recommended that he start off with getting a putter so he would have the longest period to practice with the best club in the bag.

Secondly I told him to pick up a good set of wedges and the second two sections he did himself.

He's now got a full set of clubs that he completed with his TM rescue in December and is ready to go for this season with a full set that he is used to and built around how he likes to play.

Oh and no finance which was the point! :)

Ash!!

Finance is not good. By the time you finish paying, you have battered the clubs, and want to change again, so back on the finance trail. Once on it, never off it.

It depends how long you need the finance for

If it is 3 months, then a 0% credit card is an option
BUT only if you do pay it off in that time

I think the most v12 do is 12 months and thats for very expensive purchases. Don't see you needing to replace after 12 months. Seems an ok idea as long as you can clear it in time!

Bought irons on tick a few years ago from American Golf. They do a 0% finance deal. Unfortunately its not a fixed direct debit, you have to pay each month. I had to be really disciplined and stick to paying my £60 religiously each month, as it would be too easy to miss one or two payments

After 6 months I think it went onto Wonga.com type rates - so if you do it - remember to pay!

I'd be tempted to say wait until you can afford it but I'm fortunate that I managed to pay my rather large bills thans to a PPI windfall. I think you need to look at the options (and small print) pretty carefully first and ask yoursefl do you really need new irons at this juncture or can you wait when there will be new offerings out and those you crave now will have potentially reduced in price anyway

I think i will try and ignore my impatient nature and wait until I save the money. I don't relly NEED new irons, mine are old and a bit battered but I do ok with them!
It is difficult to ignore all the new shiny stuff tho!

I guess I know deep down that new ger isnt needed and I have made a promise that any money spent will be on lessons.
If I get down to 15 then I might treat myself, I should've save a few quid in five years time!!!!

cheers for the sensible answers and cyber guidance.

ps. if anyone is looking to get gear on finance there looks to be a few 0% interest deals going at reputable online sites, directgolf being one.
