WOW, I knew a short break would have a little effect but I wasn't expecting to go back to square one. My break was down to minor 2 week injury (fully recovered) followed by a DIY project.

I'm a high handicapper (was coming down nicely) but am always ready for 36 holes of golf and can steadily knock a few pars together. Today was a shocker as I was knackered after 12 holes and my swing went to pieces and if it wasn't for my putting I would have knocked up a HUGE score.

First nine I hit 5 pars which was a first for me and put this down to the break getting rid of any swing thoughts and I just went back to basics. Second nine went bogey, par, bogey and this is when the swing went. My arms were stiff and my back tight and in the end I resorted to hitting nothing more than a 6 iron with a mid-swing.

Has anyone else noticed this before? I'm hoping no-one has this year and that your all well into a successful season of injury free golf.

Do you carry food in your bag? doesn't have to be a Sunday dinner, some of the cereal breakfast bars may do the trick and drink plenty fluid... or you could hire a buggy of course till you get back to match fitness!

i have no golf fitness owing to liking Guinness and pies too much but I can still manage 36 holes in one day (ish) but using Brendy's favourite piece of equipment the trolley.

Yeah I carry a sandwich, a couple of cereal bars and 2 bottles of sports drinks. I'm also a couple of lbs lighter after my other half eating healthy.

I think the way forward is practice. I used to go up to the park with my PW and a bag of cheap/seconds balls and swing for a while.

If your park is anything like mine you'll have dogs off the lead crapping everywhere and foul mouthed youths all ready to nick your balls just as you drop your head to address the ball

Don't forget 36 holes is akin to walking around 9-10 miles (12-14 he wy I play) and so if you haven't built up a degree of cardio endurance you are bound to get tired. At least you are stocking up on food and particularly drinks although I'd put water in the bag rather than the sports drink

I struggle to put golf and fitness in the same sentence. You really do need to get some exercise. Not golf, but proper exercise.

I do plenty of walking, lifting, and carrying at work.I also do a 3 mile run every night after work, keeps me fit,and my dogs love it.
After a busy day at work, and a run with my dogs,i do start to get a bit weary over the last few holes, but weekend golf is completely different,i could do 36 holes no probs.

Following a nasty accident 6 years ago 1 round a day is painful, and 2 in a day just doesn't happen. But just how fit do you have to be to play golf.............. gross 75 on Saturday, 3 over par.

high handicappers always think they are better than they are instead of just trying to play to there handicap or by beating it by 1 it seems ya try too hard an blow up i know ive been there
