I had one of these at Cambridge DG yesterday, and found it to be very good. I had one of the pros check my swing speed and angles, then he went through the bag checking the clubs suitability. He explained things very well, gave me some advice and told me everything in the bag was perfect for me. The whole thing took about 45 minutese and I felt a little guilty walking away having not spent a bean. Great service and highly recommended if you are in any doubt regarding adjustments on your clubs.

I know they get some bad press for wanting to sell John Letters kit but I had an MOT recently and was recommended nothing, my clubs are great for me too.

The Letters Master Model and Master Blade model would rival any of the usual top manufacturers current offerings. Had a try of the Masters Model last year and I'd have been hard pressed to tell the difference between that and my own set of Mizuno irons. Letters do seem to be getting back to the type of quality the name was once known for. Obviously not the same company as was, but, current owners trying to live up to the name.

It was a 160 mile round trip but well worth it. I must admit I thought it could be a hard sell, but honestly there was none of that at all. I will definitely call in next time I am passing. I was very impressed.

And Sam Torrance really does use them! I saw him hit a rather exquisite shot with one to a couple of feet on West Course 10th ten or so days ago.

The golf MOT offered by direct golf is very good, it has the golfers interests at heart, You can get the whole service and in the end walk away with details about you swing and equipment.
With the game of golf increasing in numbers many people use ebay to buy used clubs, or even use the internet to buy clubs cheaper, most of which are not correctly fitted to the golfer, this MOT allows current equipment to be fitted to the golfer as best we can. Golf ball fitting again is a key part, use the right ball and reduce the spin and hit the ball straighter (well ish anyway)

Having done many of these MOT's I would advise people to pop in and try it.

As for john letters, try it, if you don’t like it they try something else. Club branding does not mean better golf shots. Try as many different brands and clubs before you buy, be open-minded and you will find the best suited golf equipment for you.

As good as people are saying it is there must be a reason DG are pushing this MOT scheme and I would be surprised if they are not pushing clubs and other stuff onto people.

Not too long back I had one of the guys on in my local DG while I was going the range. He asked me if I wanted to do a grip test type of scheme to see if my grips needed changing. Guess what they where apparently a month or two away from needing doing and fitting was free at the time. You should of seen the look on his face when I told him I had them fitted brand new in the same store weeks earlier ha ha he then said they may just need a clean.

So sorry all stores are after our money with these types of schemes

John Letters always use to produce good clubs and are now back in the market with some models that will give the more well known and popular brands a run. I'm tempted by the swing MOT and may wander down to the Reading store at the end of the month when I'm off work and give it a go.

Nothing to do with DG, but I was trawling Ebay last week for a bladed mid iron so I can stick a training grip and Swingyde on it and not have to mess about taking it off my normal clubs for the course.

Managed to 'win' a John Letters master model 7 iron for £20 delivered. Looking forward to trying it out!

Of course they are not doing it just for the sake of it. But I am guessing part of it is to build up brand loyalty. So they may not be overtly selling you clubs during your golf MOT, but the next time someone who has received a very good golf MOT from them wants some new clubs, or balls, or what ever, they will be much more likely to check out Direct Golf.

Nothing wrong with that at all in my mind as it's a win win, you get a golf MOT and they get some loyal customers. What's the problem?

They do push you to try the letters but if you don't like them just say no. I did like them and they are a stunning set, looks as good as anything else on the market in my opinion and felt as good as anything I tried on the day of fitting ( about 6 different ranges)

Any big chain is going to try and push things they are associated with but the guys at Cambridge have always been great when I've asked for advice or to try out clubs.
