golf deal on Groupon @ Mentmore GC...

I have always been one, as a Club Manager, to steer away from these cut price offer type companies but I can kinda see the benefits to us if it is done in a certain way.

The club only get 50% of the price and only if the golfers actually turn up is my understanding but a club not a million miles away from me did a deal for £19 for 2 including bacon roll and coffee............they sold 1800 of them!!

Now if they all turn up that is over £17k they have generated but on the flip side will a big percentage of these 1800 be guys who would have come and paid say £25 to play??

If not then it's a no brainer but I am still very unsure of the benefits to clubs and think there may need to be restrictions on how they are used.

It's a tough one!

I've just booked this - fourball for £55.

It expires at midnight tonight though (16-11-2011) so be quick if you're interested.

I've played there before and it's a fantastic place.

I think that the voucher has to be taken to Mentmore fairly soon though and they'll exchange it for one of their own - something about the Groupon one only being valid for 2 months.

Nothing on the voucher about this, where did you read it?

I called Mentmore to see if there were many restrictions on tee times (thankfully there doesn't seem to be) and the lady there mentioned it. I was going to wait until I can download the voucher and check the wording.

Bought yesterday so have downloaded the vouchers. Tee times are after 8.30am midweek and after 11am at weekends, subject to booking in advance, certainly nothing on it about exchanging for another voucher though.

where do you play in Nhampton?

I'm a member at Kingsthorpe but my game is in a mess at the moment and it isn't a good course if you're struggling off the tee. I'm taking a few weeks off now to try to find a swing.

I've been a bit of a voyeur on here for a while but thought I'd register as I really like this forum.

I see you're in MK, where abouts do you play?

Im at Aylesbury Vale, its one of the free reciprocal courses with Kingsthorpe (we played there earlier this year). Strange little course and yes if you struggle off the tee you must die round there (not to mention go home hoarse from screaming FORE on every hole). We played it when quiet midweek, not sure Id have fancied it on a busy saturday

It can be a bit interesting some Saturday mornings particularly if you're on either the 6th or 14th tees as blocked shots/slices are coming in your direction. You lose all inhibitions about shouting though and our group got some funny looks at Woburn the other week with fore being shouted at the top of your voice (another bad driving day for me lol).

Big plus side is the quality of the greens though which regulalrly get commented upon. There's only 3 greenstaff so lord knows how they manage it.

Our group is talking about trying some of the other courses so we'll try to get over to Aylesbury at some point.

We'll probably wait until March/April time before going to Mentmore to try to get some reasonable weather. Enjoy your day there.

Thks Warbur, were planning on waiting until spring for Mentmore too, the greens are horribly woolly there currently (according to friends who played it the other day).

The greens were OK when we were at yours, though had recently been treated I think so may not have been at their best. I think our clubs are run similarly, ours greens are in great nick and they are now undergoing several course changes this winter, despite a very small greenkeeping staff

Nice one G1BBO, that sorts my dad's birthday out next year.....with the added bonus that he has to take me along as well!
