Have you read "Dream On" by John Richardson. True story about a guy who challenges himself to go from shooting 100+ rounds to shoot a level par round of golf within 12 months. (He's married with a young child and has a full time job.) The 2nd half of the book in particular is really good.
Donegan is a journalist who wangles himself to carry the bag of a journeyman pro on the tour to see what it's like - both as a caddie and the pro's view at the bottom end on the tour list. A very good insight into the grind & graft at the non-glamorous end of pro-golf.
Another couple choices - both by John Feinstein.
Tales from Q School - a fascinating insight into the drama & heartache of trying to qualify for the pro tour. Or,
Caddy for Life - a biography of Bruce Edwards - long time caddy of Tom Watson, documents his love of the game, his & Tom's friendship and Edwards eventual decline through ALS. A stunning read and if you don't have a lump in your throat by the end, then you have a heart of stone.
Try The Amateurs by John Niven.
Its a good laugh about a bloke that gets hit on the head by a golf ball and turns into a pro golfer. You have to excuse all the bad language though so dont let the kids read it.
