Golf and spa

I know this has been done before but I cant find much by searching.

Looking for recommendations for a one night 36 hole break at the end of March with a spa for the ladies no further North than Birmingham and no further West than Cardiff please.

Price wise the top end ones (Grove, Stoke Park etc) are out of our league so need somewhere where the course will have faired well with all the rain.

One place I'd looked at was Vale of Glamorgan but not sure how wet that'll be?

I did one late last year at Lingfield park. while i would rate the course as OK, would play better in the summer, the hotel was very good, the food was great, it was an Elemis spa which my mrs insisted on. Think it worked out at about £100 a head and that included B&B, 3 course dinner, golf or spa. was very very good all in all. while the golf course might get slated here by some, i actually thought it was OK, a good solid test.

Oh and we booked it via spabreaks.com who are the sister company to golfbreaks.com who were very good, the spa times got messed up a bit, so we ended up with a private dining room and 2 bottles of champagne for an apology!

The Vale is a nice little break as far as the golf is concerned. Both the national course and lakes course are decent and the fact they are considerably different makes for two interesting rounds. Both courses do get quite wet (where isn't at the moment) and the national is quite a long old walk. You can get some really good deals for here.

Bowood is worth a look, lovely course and hotel. Seem to be some decent deals on for that as well.

I haven't tried any spa facilities so can't comment on them sorry.

Rich is right! Bowood is a fantastic course! the dining are and hotel looked nice, but i didnt stay overnight or see the spa.

Depends on what is most important, for our trip it was the spa as it was for my mrs 30th! but work out what is most important.

Bowood would be a fine choice though!! real tough course that plays very well and hosts a number of decent events!

It's difficult to see costs for a spa and golf break taken together on some of the sites and I need to check with my mate exactly what he wanted to spend but from a quick look I think the Oxfordshire might be at the top end of budget. Shame as I think someone on here said it wasn't too wet a few weeks ago.

We've both been to celtic manor a couple of times but wouldn't 100% rule it out.

If the Vale is actually known for getting wet that I think that's a no.

Will take a look at Bowood.

What's most important - the golf obviously! (Hopefully she didn't hear me type that)

I believe the Spa at the Belfry may have been done up recently, along with everywhere else, and the course has been open whenever I've been to the range, but can't comment on how it's fared.

Whittlebury Hall is another course / spa combo option.

I've been to Wokefield Park near Reading a few times - the course is good, the missus says the spa is nice there, not too expensive either. Also, there's Haythrop Park which is near Oxford - the course is a challenge (in my book anyway) and they have a spa there, however the missus has never been to that one!

My missus has been to Bowood spa and she says it is OK, but it is quite expensive for what it is. I also think Bowood course is a little overrated and it get's very very wet in the rain.

Have you been to Bowood recently Woody?

I spoke to the pro there earlier and he said course had held up well, only shut for a couple of days and no temp tees or greens and it was looking like favourite. Am now wondering if they should have been fully open

Forest of Arden is a decent venue and Birmingham is very adjacent if the other half wants to do some retail therapy as well
