Spring is springing and the golf season proper is up and running.

My goals for the coming year are:
1. Cut number of putts per round to 32 (currently averaging about 38).
2. Play in as many medal comps as possible.
3. To enjoy myself, and to not let the bad shots get to me!

Would be interested to know what the forumers goals are for the season, if any? We could keep a record on here than review how we are getting on later in the year?

Targets....

1. Try to play in 12+ club comps, only managed 3 last year
2. Get my handicap down to 22, that was last years target but due to lack of comps only managed 27!
3. Get good at golf!

Targets this year....

Make my game more consistant, bit too yo yo-ish recently.

Make my new found putting putting more solid.

Try and keep my balance more. :D

This year's targets:
1. Get down to around 12, from 18. Have shot 2 79's and a host of low 80's through winter, this has been kept up when the summer course rolled out, had an 82, 84, 87 and 80 this week.
2. Get my putting down - I counted my putts for the first time last week, and was under my aim of 2 per green with 33, and I want to keep it that way! ;)
3. Polish the swing, so it is engrained into my muscle memory!

Already exceeded one of my goals by winning a comp, have changed my goal to win at least one more.

Ideally would like to get the handicap under 20 but would be happy to get it down to 22.

Final goal is to stop buying golf gear that I do not need.

Targets for the year :-

1. Reduce playing handicap to 5 (started at 9 and cut to 8.1 after first comp) ---good start.
2. Win a singles board competition.
3. Win the club Order of Merit for the year
4. Really sharpen up my short game

Would be very happy with that come October

Last year with no practice I finished exactly where I started, this year there will be a little more practice so hopefully I can get into the higher echelons of 7, any more than that will be a bonus, I do want to get back to my joining h/cap of 6.0 though if not this year, next.

not a good start HNJ, that's 2 putts already!!

to get a more consistant game all round really.
play more golf and put more time in practicing.

My original goal was to get from 17 to 12.

After two competitions I am at 15.5, so pleased with that so far.

I want to get my name on the board in one of the prestigious competitions as well.

maybe you are right, Ive only been playing for over 30 yrs and the last 5 with MS  and Im so excited about 2 putts these days I wrote it twice :D

Having come last at last years 36 hole medal club champs, I'm determinded not to let it happen again. Ever! That is all.

In the mean time it would be nice to stop going up 0.1 everytime I play.

How am I going to ensure this.

Lessons.
Having and using the right club at the right time.
Practice.
Improve my short game. (Massive improvement this year already, thanks to playing throughout the winter.)
Sort out my tee shots (lessons).

If I finish in the chocs at the weekly comps whilst on my way to the main goal, so be it.

Bob, you don't mean Specific, Measurable, Aggressive, Realistic and Time-bound?

Sounds like my bleedin' appraisal at work! :D ;)
Almost. Attainable not aggresive. :)
It's worth setting fixed goals rather than just vague wants.

My goals for the coming year are:

1. Play in more comps until my h'cap is "achieved" not "given" :)
2. Improve enough to make the team (It WAS offered on Sunday, but I turned it down)
3. Learn to use a proper sand wedge (out of the bunkers!!) and not my gimmick wedge (now in the shed!)
4. Stick with one swing and get some Custom Fit irons accordingly.

The one that scares me is no.3 :) :D

Dont be scared of you SW. It can save you loads of shots off your h/cap

I've just edited my post.....l.o.l. :D

I love it around the greens *when* I have to use it....it's the sand that's the trouble.....

I can't decide between the proper technique (which I've never been any good at) or just learning one useable shot.

I've got putter fitting/lesson in a few days, then another lesson on my swing, then it's in the sand for me.....
