GM Outing at Letham Grange today

Any chance of a clue as to who these reprobates are ?

Can we play a game please ?

Based on the fact that I know you Jocks are good religious guys and never drink more than a dozen on the Sabbath.

So who was the guy that didn't get a round in ?

£1 a corner, eh ?

My money's safe I think ;)

Well another Scottish Forum meet has been successfully held at this visually stunning course. I had never played Letham Grange before the event, but I'll just have to give it another go at some time. A tough challenege where course management certainly played a big part in your success or failure !

We had a good turn out, some old faces and some new faces, but I think it's fair to say we all had a good time. The standard of golf on the day was of the usual high standard. It had to be with water taking a prominent role on around 13 of the 18 holes. Thankfully I only managed to catch the water a couple of times, who didn't catch the water at the 10th would have been an easier question to ask.

The 8th hole was a spectacular short par3 with carry all the way to the green over the water. J_F shows it well in his video clip. Tough target to hit.

So thanks to Madandra for doing all the organising, thanks to GM for the prizes and thanks to the guys I played with, Ivan, Joe & Bob for a good days golf.

With a bit of luck I may get a couple of pics posted later on.

Here's to the next time. :)

Played there three or four times in the early nineties.
Your video brings back a lot of happy memories. Thanks for posting it, and glad to see that you had a good time in what looks to be good weather.

Good video John.

Winners and losers please and a pic of 'the jacket'!

A brilliant day all round.

As you can see from the video it was shorts and tee shirt weather. A rarity for a Scottish event, where we've not had the best of luck. Not a waterproof in sight although with DCB's shaved legs we thought he might be getting the high tech race swimsuit on at one point. There was certainly enough water on the course to merit it. Some really fun shots.

The course is a cracker and well chosen by Madandra, to whom many thanks for the organising.

The water certainly caused a bit of drama in our group of Dodger, Mike Melville (of English?/Scottish? fame at Goswick) and Atticus-Finch.

Atticus started off to a flyer with a very good first two holes but just tweaked his tee shot at the 3rd to the left. Whilst we were looking for the ball on the bank of the stream we all heard a thud to turn round and see A_F poleaxed on the ground with blood streaming from his forehead.

He had walked into a sharp branch overhanging the burn and gashed his head wide open. With blood streaming down his face I seriously thought that was the end of his round there and then but fortunately we managed to stem the tide with the help of a golf towel, a 5 minute wait and a plaster from IM02 in the following group. If we had only remembered the needle and thread I'm sure A-F would have just stitched it to continue.

Just to add insult to injury, A_F then proceeds to burst his troosers at the arse when very determinedly retrieving his ball from the stream. He said he was lucky he wasn't wearing the thong today.

Fair play to Atticus but he managed a great recovery with two straight 3 pointers right after that to go out in 18 points. The highlight was the shot you see him hit in the video over the water to 10 feet? He got the 2 as well! He faded a bit towards the end but what d'you expect from someone with only a pint of blood in them.

:D

Try again CrapHacker thats a pound for charity ,while the others were tying the laces on there slips ons i was at the the bar with a nice pint of Guiness drooling at the barmaid. :)
A great day made better by myself finishing 2nd ,course was in great nick ,not used to playing a course so lush.
Well done to Andy for organising a great day out and Alan for organising The Portcullis for a cracking steak pie.
And to John a worthy winner and the only person that jacket would fit and for his video which is on you tube with a cert of 18 for the horror swings and the cut on Alans head.
Again a great day and roll on the next one , anyone any ideas?.

Blooded, bruised, battered with a pair of split breeks couldn't dampen my enjoyment of another forum outing.
Great weather, great course and some great company. What more do you need? A crash helmet maybe?
Well played John for a splendid 36 points. Although maybe it's just as well for the couple of horrendous putts late on in the round as 40+ points might not have went down too well and a big thanks to Dodger for lending me his towel on the 3rd to stem my bloody head. (I owe you one mate) Also Mike for supplying me with a couple of fags to help regain my composure.
Big thanks also to Madandra for the organizing and GM for supplying some excellent prizes.
Looking forward to the next one already.

Great stories so far and I can't wait to feature this next month. Not sure who wants to do the official write up but I'll need the scores, user names/real names and a 350 summary of the golf and course (word limite set by GM and so I don't get accused of butchering anyones hard work again). Please forward to golfmonthlyforum@yahoo.co.uk. I presume pictures will be going directly to GM for posting as a gallery and to ask Mike which ones he wants to use for the piece

Great day even though I played like a total chopper, glad to see AF made it all the way round as when he hit that tree I feared we would be a 3 ball for the remaining 16.5 holes!

Thanks to Andy for the organising and to GM for the top prizes,I did manage to pocket myself a lovely Mizuno windtop after winning the long drive with a knock of 410yrd (GPS Measured) into the wind and out the heel of the club....honestly. :p

Some pics from Letham. Didn't take many as I was too engrossed in the golf on the day.

This is what all the fuss was about. A very interesting hole indeed.

Any more photos? Anyone?

It's a shame we all have those ones of the 8th because there are so many other nice holes. At least three signature holes. You can understand why, though. It is a peach. Would love to play it from the back tees.

Forgot to add in my previous post big thanks to GM for some cracking prizes. Have watched J_F's video on You Tube and noticed how bad my swing is ,its like a lavvy chain ,scary :o
