After much deliberation, thought and reading of comments on the various threads, I have taken into account what has been said and come up with the following. Several comments along the lines of advising me to pick a format and go with it as I've volunteered to organise it.

So here we are:

1) There will be 2 trophies, the primary one will be stableford off full allowance open to everyone with a valid handicap. The secondary one will be a scratch medal competition alongside the stableford open to anyone. To submit a score for this you will be required to return a score on every hole.

2) The above format will apply to all regional qualifiers as well as the final. There will be two qualifiers from each regional, winner of the stableford event and also the lowest scratch score. If the stableford winner also returns the lowest scratch score then the scratch qualifier will be the person returning the next lowest score.

3) The event is open to both men and women. Men will play from the tee of the day, women from the red tees.

4) The entry fee will be £10. You may enter as many qualifiers as you wish but must pay the entry fee for each event. This is in addition to the cost of the regional qualifier. The total monies collected from entry fees will be used to subsidise those people who qualify for the final and pay for the trophies. This will be distributed evenly to all qualifiers.

5) The competition will be open to forum members only.

6) The winners of both events shall have full bragging rights on the forum for a period of one year. The scratch winner will have priority as obviously he/she will be the better golfer :D

8) I appreciate that not everyone will be in agreement with these rules as you can't please all the people all the time but I have tried to come up with a format that will satisfy most people. Hopefully this format will encourage as many of you as possible to enter.

9) Finally.....if you don't like the format......tough! You can organise it next year and come up with your own set of rules :ears:

I will organise bank details for payment of entries etc and post the details once I have done that. I am also working on a suitable venue for the final and will announce details once finalised. As per last year, I will try to arrange enough spaces so that people who don't qualify can come along and play on the day and also offer support to the finalists.

Good luck everybody!

No problem with the rules as posted but just one question. As it is only open to those with valid handicaps are people without handicaps that want to play in the regional events anyway still expected to pay the £10 as they won't actually be in the competition?

EDIT - What is an active handicap? I'm taking the rest of the year off so might be able to get three rounds in to put in a card and get an official handicap. My membership expires at the end of December and I'm not currently planning on renewing it and will probably become a nomad golfer. Does my handicap become inactive as soon as my membership ends or does it stay active for a period of time after that?

As per the rules, if you don't have a valid handicap you are still very welcome to play in the scratch event if you want. Best thing is to check with the regional organiser to see if they are happy for people to come along on a social basis, I don't have any issues with it.

Last year if you didn't want to play in the competition, perhaps you couldn't make the final, you could still play the regionals and didn't pay the £10. Think we want as many as possible to play in the regionals, and I will certainly not turn any forumers away at the Southern region if we have spaces.

. Well done and thank you for picking up this baton!

And Colchester, I think handicaps remain active for a year so if you can get the cards in during this membership year at your club, then that should count as valid. Anyone able to confirm that?

I think that should be the correct approach, however it is not what happened last year. Not in the Scottish qualifier at any rate.....

I paid my tenner to enter the Scottish regional last year even though I knew I couldn't attend the final - well worth it to meet some fine people and support the event

Perhaps we need to make sure all regionals are the same then. I played the regional but didn't pay £10 as I couldn't play in the final, and I was not the only one !!

More the merrier as far as I am concerned.

Don't worry Karen, I won't be doing the same as last year , no one will be made to pay to play in the comp unless they want to . I will have to get a couple of mates in to sign people on as I only have a certain number of times available to me and it wouldn't be fair to ask them to pay .

Handicaps do remain active for a calendar year BUT only if you are a member of a club. Once you cease to be a member then your handicap ceases, I can be reactivated if you rejoin a club within 6 months.

just a small suggestion that rule 3 encompasses handicap adjustments in line with the relationship between SSS and par at the courses. given the likely numbers it's simple enough to adjust the Ladies on the day.
In relation to that Duncan , not sure how is is done?

Nairn is par 71 sss73 ladies is par 74 sss74
