Matchplay, yup bring it on
IIRC correctly a matchplay comp very nearly got off the ground a couple of years back, would be interesting to gauge numbers and localities?
will be an element of travelling for most but if you sign up you know that's likely, and then the big problem after all the bickering that goes on is who is prepared to organise it?
If you use 3 hours as a general idea, it can be acahievable for most.
Firstly you get all the entrants in, lets say 64 - THEN you split into 4-6 regions. Most will live within 3 hours of each other.
They can play somewhere inbetween, which is only 1 1/2 hours away, so no big deal. However i would suspect that most regions people would mainly live closer to each other.
The final qualifier can either be split into 2 final qualifiers or one, once the last 4-8 individuals or pairs geographical locations are known.
With this the 20% will be bring it down - if people are willing to travel 2-3 hours to play others it can go ahead, but leave the 20% moaners to their own and do it for the majority, otherwise it'll never happen. Such is life.
I'd be happy to be on a committee that helps to get it set up, if required.
My brain is Hurting after reading that mate.
Why don't we just all go back to York For a weekend. Much more fun
No committees involved, just beer and Revolving dancefloors!

For plumbers, we'll write it on the back of a ciggy packet, you'll understand it then.

Excuse me , Gas Engineer if you don't mind![]()
I'll throw my tuppence into this and if certain forum members get a tad upset then if the cap fits......
Lots will have ideas but dont want to take the lead
Lots say they'll do A and when A comes around they dont do anything
Some will like venue A better than venue B and will vent off big time if dates and venues to suit them
People who have no interest in setting things up will vent their spleen if it doesnt suit them
Some people will say it is all devalued if their is no scratch comp despite having no interest in adding anything to the party.
Further to the scratch part, some may try and suggest organising a scratch only comp whilst this is still being finalised. This really wound me up last year especially when it was apparent early on finals day was going to struggle for numbers.
As you'll appreciate, despite lots of help from many people I got my fingers burned a tad last year when I stepped in to help, im afraid i wont be offering my services again.
