gearbox advice anyone

Wife just got back complaining about the gearbox on her old pergueot 206. Stick is sloppy and difficult to select 1st all other gears fine. This does not look good for my new irons planned for the new year. Someone please tell me it's a simple fix.

Could be the syncro in 1st starting to go. Could also be the selector fork coming loose, i have no idea what a 206 gearbox looks like. Open the bonnet, get your missus to move the gearstick in and out of 1st/2nd and see if the selector (linkage bit that goes onto the gearbox casing) is loose. Beyond that, get her to a backstreet mechanic.

Cheers bendy, that's pretty much as I feared. Will check the linkage in the morning when its light. Fingers crossed for a loose locking nut.
