He is one of, if not the, best players i've ever seen in my lifetime.

Seems in a bad way though, hope he can stay off the sauce.

I'm kinda biased though being brought up a Spurs fan & also a Newcastle season ticket holder!

I can't agree with that, big hearted yes, up there with Eusebio, Pele, George best etc? No, in my opinion quite a few other Home international players (Pat Jennings, Bobby Charlton, Mark Hughes Paul McGrath, Rushie, Bryan Robson, Giggs, Shearer, Beckham, Gerard... hell even Andy Cole, Jamie Carragher, David Seamen etc deserve that title more than Gazza regardless of position.

Honestly, the guy always had problems with his head, To me he was a journeyman who could kick a ball but wasn't anything special. Whenever hit the century of appearances with any team he ever played for neither and his career for laziovwasnt exactly sparkling either. Again 'I' think there is some rose tinted perspectives being viewed. He is remembered for crying, trying to top himself, injuries and the baffling documentarie not for his game changing abilities.

No sauce involved Steve, Peter Crouch and Emile Heskey both have similar honours for england and club, does that make then greats too?

As I said, its maybe the national pride etc that he showed that endeared him to the english, to others he is a knob that wasted the talent that he did have, in a dangerous tackle that could have ended another players career (Forest player in the FA cup Final) luckily it was him that got wrecked. Rose glasses indeed.

Some of the players I mentioned above, Ryan Giggs, possibly because he chose Wales instead of England, had he chose to play for England he would have been a legend.
Bobby Charlton, maybe because it was before many of us were much of an age, but search Bobby Charlton on Wikipedia, his honours and personal awards lists would put most legends to shame, this coming from a Liverpool supporter too.
Gerard, like him or hate him has more honours than Gascoigne also including those which were voted by other professionals in the game.

I think we'll agree to disagree on this one as he will always be a waster in my mind.

I'm a lifelong Arsenal supporter but I can honestly say that I've nothing but the utmost admiration for Gascoigne. Yes of course he has never been right in the head and yes he's also an alcoholic but on the field I would never tire of watching him play.

Love or hate him you cannot question the football talent that he had, its up there with the very best of them, and in my opinion the most skilful English footballer there has ever been.

Did I really say that? Too many Tins of Carling me thinks!
Granted Gazza ain't everyone's cup of tea particularly after his idiotic/brainless behaviour at rangers, but I admire him for his football talent -lucky enough to see him playing for spurs at his best- in that team he was on another level.
On a side note - Messi's on another planet in this era. Seen a few half decent players on my travels (including Zinidene Zidane) and Messi's surely gotta be up there with the legends Pele, Eusebio & the great George Best.

I was at that cup final against forest,and it was a terrible tackle,but I was gutted to see him go off,he was imo one of the most gifted players to ever to play for England,you might not like the man, but as a footballer there has not been many better.

Oh if anyone is going to look on Wikipedia, I would suggest looking at Jimmy Greaves, B.Charlton was a fantastic player but Greaves is the best player ever to play for England.
