I had a gapping session today as i wanted to check my gaps with my woods and hybrid.
I carry a driver,3 wood,5 wood and a hybrid.
My gaps were as follows...................

hybrid set to 22 degrees...........177yd carry
5 wood 18 degree....................184yd carry
3 wood set at 16.5degrees.......191yd carry
driver 10.5 degrees..................220yd carry

What gaps would you normally have? My 5 wood cannot be adjusted where as my hybrid is 19-22 degrees and my 3 wood is 15-16.5.

Do you know how far your longest iron goes?

5 wood looks to be doing nothing but strenghtening hybrid could leave bit yardage gap with longest iron.

Strenghten 3 wood and new shiney to split 3 wood and hybrid?

Depends also what you want each club to do. I sometimes carry 2 iron and 2 hybrid when playing parkland which go similar distance but each does a particular job for me.

Hybrid ditched when playing links.

How far goes you longest iron? Do you feel you have a gap at a distance you often face for a shot into the green?

Looking at hybrid, 5 wood and 3 wood, you have 3 clubs for a range of just 14yd. Which is a lot especially considering we're talking about long shots, not short approaches where precise distance control is key...

So, depending on how far you hit your longest iron you could...

... set the hybrid to e.g. 21 degrees, so it goes around 180yd, ditch the 5 wood and leave the 3 wood as it is
... ditch the hybrid, keep the 5 wood, set the 3 wood to e.g. 16 or 15.5 degrees, so it goes at least 10 yards further than the 5 wood
... set the hybrid to 20 or even 19 degrees, ditch the 5 wood and set the 3 wood so you get gaps between hybrid/3 wood/driver that are at least similar

Also, see what causes the differences in distance between hybrid, 5 wood and 3 wood. The 4 degrees difference between hybrid and 5 wood give you 7 more yards, as do the 1.5 degrees difference between the 5 wood and 3 wood. The 6 degrees between 3 wood and driver give you 30 yd.

This could mean a lot of things, e.g. you're not hitting your 3 wood very well, which could mean you wouldn't gain significant distance by lowering the loft.
It could also mean you're hitting your hybrid better than your woods, so replacing the 5 wood with a 19 degree hybrid might be an option.

My 5 iron carry 24 degree is 168 yds.
The 5 wood is pretty redundant really. Could change the hybrid s degree or so and play the 3 at 15 degrees but dont think i need anything between my hybrid and 3 wood ?

Knock the hybrid down a degree or two and ditch the 5w.

Unless you use them in different situations, 7yds between clubs is pointless imo.

+1 for this

10-12 yd gaps from 5i to 3 wood should work well.

I would leave the 3 wood as it is, chances are you wouldn't gain significant distance anyways.

Starting point would be to take the 3 wood as strong as you can still launch it reliably from all the conditions you use it from and work from there (unless all the par 3s are 190 yards)

Then I reckon strengthen the hybrid down to 20 and leave out the 5 wood. Then think about your wedge gapping and most likely throw in a gap wedge.

Just seen you haven't added how far you hit your longest iron, a lot of it depends on that tbh

Having a 23 yard gap and 4 clubs covering it is pointless IMO. You have a 7 yard gap between your hybrid - 5w - 3w.

My advice would be to drop the 5w, take down the hybrid loft and you will have a perfect gaping.
