Gap in wedges

Just to fill in the backstory, I picked up a new set of Cobra SZ irons a few months ago (great BTW), but I needed to get a gap wedge between the 44 degree PW, and 54 degree SW... So, I had 44, 49, 54, and a 60 LW... Now, I needed to replace my 12 year old LW anyway, and not being able to get any sort of control with the Cobra GW, I picked up a couple of Vokeys at 52 and 60 degrees.

Now, I LOVE the vokeys, even at 18 hcap, I can get a check and stop action going on short pitches. I've even backspun once or twice with the 60. The problem is that I'm only getting 80 yards or so with the 52, and 110-115 with the PW.

This leaves a big gap at the critical distance of 100 yards. I could swap my PW for my GW, which I can hit 100 yards, but then I leave a big gap between 100 and 125 (my 9 iron)...

I guess my options do include picking up a loftier PW, maybe around the 46 degree mark to split the 9I/52* Vokey lofts in two.

Any ideas chaps?

So, if I have this right, you have a 44 PW and 52 GW and 60 LW. And the issue is anything over the GW (80) up to 110-115.

I can see the problem, since the only clubs around these days of 48 degrees are old PWs.....

You have two choices...
1) Learn a way to hit your PW under full strength
2) Buy (or customise) a club to fill the gap.

Last year (before I upgraded to a TM/Vokey arrangement) I had an old GW customised for the gap. I hit a 52 GW approx 95 yards, but wanted a bit further, as you say, for 100 yards. It worked fairly well (had it cranked to 50-ish) but then I changed my whole set-up.

t.b.h. it's better to practice (madly) with your PW to get it spot on 100 and then rely on that one specific shot.
I struggled with this for ages until bobmac suggested I learned to hit it holding the grip almost on the shaft. I'd been used to "choking down" a little, but not quite so dramatically. It took me two buckets to get the feel, but now if I'm 100-105, I know which shot to play.

I can't do the whole "swinging certain length/clockface drill" at all, and don't believe *some* players who claim to have got this perfect yet still play off high h'caps. I hit my wedges FULL other than two shots.

so, now I have;
80 yards SW 56
85-90 yards "gripped down" GW
95 yards GW 52
100-105 "gripped down" PW 47
110-115 yards PW

Works for me. If I'm "about" 100 yards, I'll probably go with the gap, unless I can see the flag towards the back.

I'm pretty impressive now for distance, I just need to avoid the little pulls still. :)

I've actually made a different decision. I'm going to go with the PW, GW, 52 and 60 degree vokeys... OK, I'm dropping the sand wedge (54), but actually I can use the 52 or 60 for that if necessary.

This gives me PW (44) - 110-115, GW (49) - 95-100, 52 - 80-85, and 60 -55-65.

If I miss the SW too much, I'll probably drop the 5W instead, as I have a driver, and 3, 5 and 7 woods. Or, Cleveland do a 46 degree CG12 which would split the original gap of 44 and 52...

Cheers for the feedback though
