Gamesmanship.

Good god - thankfully I've never come up against that sort of behaviour in all of my (long) golfing life - in fact nothing remotely like it for sustained idiocy over 18 holes. Yes - once or twice I've played guys who do or say things that make me count to ten - but nothing on the scale of your experience.

So I think you can pat yourself on the back and accept all of our virtual pats - for serenity and good sportsmanship in the face of adversity. I doubt you'll ever experience that sort of thinhg again.

But from the 1st tee my opponent started his gamesmanship by declaring if it had been me away he'd have claimed the game as he doesn't mind how he wins!

Seems winning is all to him.

I'd simply have said "Next time I'll claim the match" after the win.

Well held on all the incidents btw.

Sounds like you handled it perfectly. I'd like to think I would have done it that way but I'm sure I wouldn't have said something earlier. Well played!!

How sweet is that win!! well played and handled it would of been so easy to get wound up by this idiots antics and let it affect your game.

Top job Fader

Doesn't worry me what people say between shots, but someone that deliberately coughs in the middle of your swing, or chinks coins together has to be told in no uncertain terms.

Well done Fader :whoo:

You did well not only to hold your game together but also to hold your tongue in the face of someone who can only be described by using swearwords. Making him putt at 16 was a masterstroke :)

A win for the good guys.

I admire your patience Fader. I think I would have had a few words at the end, refused a handshake and a drink. Pillocks like that need putting down!

Good luck in the next round!

i took the handshake moment to get face to face and explain what a prat he was and did say he'll be drinking alone in the bar afterwards. Put my clubs in the car, name on the board for the next round and left him to sit and drink his coffee alone.

Good for you! what a complete donut!

Shouldn't the loser put your name up for the next round ? I am sure he would have appreciated if you had asked him to do so.;)

Towards the end I was thinking "oh no, he might have lost this" and was relieved when I read that you'd won haha. No time for idiots like that, well done for winning it mate.

Shoulda let him pick up the short putt on the 16th then told him you hadn't conceded it. He has no right to assume a putt of any length will be co ceded simply on the basis of previous concessions.

I would have probably spoken to him on the second and advised him to restrict commentary on the score until completion of the hole and that if he paid you the respect of assuming you knew the rules, then you would pay him the respect of not assuming he was a [insert your own choice of description].

i have always feared facing an opponent like this but fortunately not ever come across any at our club. not heard any stories like this at our club either so maybe we're lucky.

i'm not sure i would have shaken his hand in the same circumstance.

1-0 to the good guys though, well done.
