Full set for less than £1000?

I like both but I don't know whether I should get rid of the 5 and 7 for a pair of hybrids. I know that I might lose a little bit of distance but I have always struck hybrids well and I have been struggling with my woods recently.

The 5/7/9 fairway versus hybrid is a pain

I have al options and prefer 5/7 and 1 hybrid, then play a round and wish I had x or y in the bag.

There is probably no right set up for everyone/every course, but I tend to have 'something for everything' in my bag.

What were you fit for?

If you know this then searching should be much easier. Find something with the same shafts and you won’t go far wrong.

You don’t really need a full set either. You certainly don’t need a 3 wood. Get something like a 7 wood or a 4 hybrid to fill the gap between driver and irons. Then 6 iron to gap wedge, sand wedge and a putter. They don’t need to matching brands either.

Second hand Ping G (pick a number) clubs will do, and hold their values if you want to sell them. They will cost you a bit more because of that.

You will need to spend a bit of time finding the rich shaft, but you can get a set of very good clubs for well under a grand.
You could get them even cheaper if you use eBay.

This is what I was fit for -> 1/2 inch longer irons, 2 degree upright and regular flex. Woods and driver standard length and regular flex.

My current thoughts are Driver, a duo of hybrids and a wood, irons from either 4 or 5-PW, 2-3 wedges and possibly a putter.

The question I would ask here is whether you really need a full set right now.

Could you potentially get away with just a new driver and set of irons?
You said you're happy with your putter for now, and you could add in new woods/hybrids and wedges over time.

This way you can spend a bit more on those items, and as a relative beginner you could either leave some gaps in your bag, or use what you have from your current mix and match set for a while. Plus if you don't have the perfect club for a shot, you will have to find ways to use what you do have which should help your creativity and skill development.

That’s what I was getting at. Sounds like the OP has fallen into the trap of wanting 14 clubs.

Find the right set of irons and a driver and add clubs from there as and when you can.

As a mid to high handicapper can the OP hit a 4 or 5 iron or have the control to need lots of wedges. Stay clear of that 60° 🤣

Look at finding a set of irons with the correct shafts. Then worry about the rest. Did you get any more info on the shaft? Such as the brand and weight. As just saying regular is pretty much meaningless as there is no set standard for flex. Even within the same brand the flex of a shaft can be different.

Exactly this, the OP could buy brand new Ping G430 driver for £400 and the 6-PW in the Cobra irons they were fitted for for £400, this would get everything in their spec and leave £200 in their pocket for later.

I had this thought in my head as well and I think that @WorldHandicapSystem is right in thinking I am falling into the 14 club trap. I know that a set of irons is important and looking at Caley I can at least return the standard clubs if I don't like them and then I would have some leftover to look at a driver. I would really like to add a hybrid to the bag though.

Finally got the picture uploaded, but this is all of the specs of the fitting I had.

As far as the irons go, I believe the fitter's mind is on brand new irons.
He is recommending 1/2 inch longer 2° upright (green dot in Ping parlance)

Ping G440 7-iron is 37ins standard length. You would have 37.5ins.
Standard loft 29° or Power Spec loft 27.5°

If you went second hand for Ping i15 irons
The 27° club would come with 37.75ins shaft as standard. (It just won't have a "7" stamped on the sole)

So 1/4 inch longer, as would be expected for 1 or 2 degree stronger loft.

Look for a set of i15 irons in green dot and standard length. They should do you.
PW is 46°. You might only need 2 more wedges.

4-PW green dot in regular flex shaft should be about £200 or less. I reckon.

I had a look at the i15's and I'm seeing a lot of good talk about them. I saw a set on golfclubs4cash for £170 or something along those lines so I am definitely going to keep them in mind.

It would be a similar story with the i10 or G10.
They would be older by 3 or 4 years of course, but more depends on their condition than age.

I play with G10 3&4 irons and 5-PW i10 irons. Bought brand new in 2008. Green dot, standard length.

I've just come across this set of Ping G30's on Golfbidder, 4-PW and SW. What are people's thoughts on them?

Thanks
Never played Ping irons myself but never heard a bad word about them - apart from the early ones that were pig ugly! :ROFLMAO: Buy them, try them and will get most of your money back if you decide they are not for you and sell them.

Not sure if Golfbidder have a 30 day return service, some of these sites do.

Buy from eBay and you will get free delivery and free 30 day returns.
