Played in a foursome match yesterday..didnt really enjoy it as i found it hard to build any momentum with the alternative shot format.

I would go as far as saying I don't think i will enter any other comps in that format. Dont mind Greensomes so much but foursome is not for me.

I can really enjoy it BUT that strongly depends on my partner. As I'm fairly easy going (on the surface!) I can get paired with the one everyone else refuses to play with

A golfing creation of the devil!

I agree 100%, a scratch handicapper format in my eyes. Do not really like greensomes either for similar reasons. I personally love betterball or texas for a team game.

Wierdly though my son (23 handicap) has won two adult/child foursomes comps at different clubs this year, normally as the scores for most adult/child games are really bad and his was the best of the worst but don't tell him I said that.:p

Played it twice. Hated it both times. As you say, you feel like you have no chance of building any momentum. Even more so if your partner has started as bad as you did.

We played a 1 and 3 handicapper and they loved it. They had it set up so that the one that putted better ended up getting most of the putts.

Played it many a time, usually with the same partners in both gents comps and mixed comps, that way you know the person you're partnering and they know you and your game. It's a team event, so, your strategy is based around who can do what of each hole. Enjoyed playing it and it's one of the more sociable events on the calendar. You spend a lot of time with your opposite number walking along the fairways. Played well, it can be a low scoring game, played badly and it's like any other bad round. Certainly not a game for the slow players :ooo:

awful format, even if playing well.

last time i played it (i struggled) i worked out without putts i had hit 14 shots by the time we had lost!

A great format and more of it should be encouraged in the winter months.

It's half a round of golf - I play the odd comp but it is very frustrating at times to see good shots wasted

In the UK, You spend all week trying to get a game in over the winter, then you only get to play your partners shot from wherever they may put you? Its generally freezing cold, and to top it off, in this format you have to wait around twice as long to play the next shot getting even colder!! I would rather stick broken glass up my back passage then play this as my only game of the week!! A game I also noted that was only generally enjoyed by the 'coffin dodgers' at my previous club!!

Love it, this year was a rollercoaster, we were given a match on the 10th green 7 up, they'd had enough, we were awesome.

Next round my partner didn't make one fairway, as in he didn't reach where the fairways started, so I spent the evening desperately trying to advance the ball from 50-100 yards in front of the tee in the thick stuff. When I did get to the plate I played really well. We got beat by two consistent players. It was Hell.

Looking forward to next year already!
