Foursomes

Played my first ever foursomes match this weekend. I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed myself. What a great format for a change to the normal match.

It was weird not playing every shot but it didnt seem to affect us, just meant we all went round quicker.

The only time it really caused us to think was when any of us missed a short put and just went to tap the ball in... clearly if we had done so there would be penalty shots against us, but we all helped each other out in this instance.

I think our club has one of these a year, I shall definitely play again next time, it's a great way to spend a few hours on the course. Of course, it helps that you dont put your partner in the deep rough :-D

Anyone else played this format? Do other clubs run similar comps?

We play our winter league matches in 3 rounds, first is better all, then Greensomes, then foursomes.

Played the second round of our Winter foursomes knockout today. My partner informed me on the tee that he had been out to a Burns Night dinner last night, and didn't get to bed until 3.00. Fortunately he woke up by about the 7th and we had a good win. 9 pars in 17 holes in the wind not too bad.

Yep our winter league is over 8 rounds then the 16 best teams go on to knockout. The formats go-betterball stableford, Greensomes Medal, 3 Club, Foursomes stableford, Bogey, Greensomes stableford, Texas Scramble, Combined stableford. We came 16th today in the Bogey and picked up 10 points

I played a foresomes and was a medal for the first time this year with an unknown partner was great fun and great pressure! . Definately would play again.

Whats Greensomes? I've heard a couple of people mention that one but not sure what it is..

Both players tee off, you take the best drive then play alternate shots from there until one of you holes out.

Grrensomes is the same as foursomes except both members of the team tee off and then select the best drive. After that it is alternate shots.

Is there a game when you all play and then choose the best shot after each hit and then you all again play from that position? Or is this just made up?

We play a summer KO competition in Foursomes format. It's great if you have a regular partner and know each others game inside out. If played well it can be a fast moving game with surprisingly low scores on occasion.
