Hi GM Forum (F.U.G.S) Hope we are all well and enjoying the weekend.

I have logged on today to bad language, posts I find inappropriate and several heated arguments can we all agree on some ground rules. Those who deviate from these should then be warned and repeat offenders asked politely to leave, just like they would in a “normal” golf clubhouse. What you reckon?

1) No bad language
2) No name calling, insults etc

Hopefully GM will support this movement and take appropriate action if needed.

Over to you guys……………..

Couldnt agree more, and it brings us back to the moderator issue. With the site now becoming alot more popular, the amount of new members is growing strongly everyday. Luckily only a select few refuse to behave as they should, but this could be dealt with by the regulars!

Good call HTL.

Bad language in posts is just a turn off for me. Definitely no need for it whatsoever.
Personal insults, aggressive behaviour and name calling has no place on a golf forum as in a clubhouse.

The "notify a noderator" button is there to be used. If a post offends, press the button.

I agree with all the forementioned.

In my working life in engineering swearing was par for the course and no-one was better at it than me,I knew every profanity going and then some but once outside the works gates no one hears me say more than the occasional ****when I duff a shot or get cut up on the road.As for using the c word on the forum I think it`s very misplaced & juvenile.

Agree whole heartedly with all the above mentioned, one reason I joined this forum was for it's friendliness and support of others.
Shame to lose that because of 1 or 2 individuals.

Totally agree.
The only problem that I can see is that one man's unacceptable language is another man's everyday vocabulary. However, I think we can all agree that there are certain words that don't belong on a public forum.

I think we need some sort of control otherwise most users will stop visiting the site.

I thought it was a golf forum but it seems that golf is the last thing we discuss these days.

Whilst I agree (to a point), (maybe I'm accused as 'one of the undesirables'), this forum has certainly livend up recently. The views will be more diverse as more people join in, (it's called democracy), and whilst some topics have got heated, there are very few instances of personal insults and written foul language, well except the odd £$%^$%^)(&^&.

In the same week we've had comments from newbies and old hands about how entertaining this forum has got recently, and 'complaints' on this thread about wanting to set rules.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Most of us know when we've stepped out of line, and if we don't know it then someone will normally pick us up on it. Fair enough. Wrist slapped, and put back into place, (in the nicest possible way). To introduce 'rules' per say, is both not in the context of forums, and certainly not conducive to the free flow of banter that you often wouldn't get in the clubhouse.

What suits one won't suit another. Apart from that it's good to let off a bit of steam every now and then.

Keep smiling

i.m.o., those who resort to foul and abusive language either don't have enough command of the English language to put their point across without adding a few f's, b's, c's etc for effect, or they are so insecure that they think that they can bully us with their opinion by using such words.

And, no, I'm not a prude. I've worked most of my life in the building trade where the use of such words is common but rarely, if ever, in the written word - and almost never when ladies and juniors are around.

Time they grew up.

there are very few instances of personal insults and written foul language,

And just to prove me wrong a poster has just blatantly sworn on one of the other threads. But he was picked up on it.

One other point, just to put the cat amongest the pidgeons. Does it matter if threads deviate from 'golf'? I think it gives us a more diverse variety of topics, and more insight into each others views and character. If you don't wish to add to to the thread then don't, nobodies forcing you. But there are only so many times you can cover (eg. balls, drivers etc) in one week.

Let the views and opinions flow, it does make for more entertaining reading. ;)

there are rules inherent in the use of any public medium; appropriate language, respect for others (without going all pc).

heated debate is fine (and fun), abuse is not.

as basher said, there is a notify the moderator button. use it - we need nothing else - but don't expect a complaint to automatically cause the deletion of a post, it may just be a personal bias that is at issue.

Forums allow people to voice their opinions and discuss topics where there may well be opposite views . The main point , in my opinion is not neccasarily (sp) what is said but the manner in which is put across . I have seen instances where a totally off-the-cuff , less than serious remark has been taken completely out of context and the thread has descended into mayhem .
I always think before posting , could this comment be misconstrued or be offensive ? If not , then i'll hit the button and keep my fingers crossed .

In reply to Haplesshacker concerning 'deviation' from golf threads , if its a golfing theme question/debate then going off topic or 'hijacking' someone elses thread is , i think , a no-no . If its an out-of-bpund thread , then sometimes the more diverse the replies , the more intersting it gets .

I'll slao add that there sems to be a lot more intelligent and articulate people on this forum tha some of the football/fishing forums i frequent :)

Sorry to add more, but I've just been reading the 'golf funny stories / jokes thread'.

Am I to believe that some 'complainers' on this thread have contributed to the 'distasteful' and 'inflamatory' language elsewhere on this forum?

Now obviously one could make oneself very unpopular by calling some posters hypocritical, and indeed is it not some of the mud-slinging that some disapprove of anyway? Just be careful what double standards you present when getting on ones high horse.

I'm kinda fed up with all this now. Let's keep it friendly, and keep it all entertaining and informative.

Lets hope summer, or at least dry weather arrives soon.

Can't really be bothered to trawl through to see who's sworn and who hasn't, and who's posted inappropriate & so on, but in general yes, no foul language, and be respectful. Which is not to say you can't be argumentative or controversial - after all, that's what most of us are here for. If we all agreed, the forum would be prety boring.

By the way, read my tag. All of you who play off ten or less are bandylegged, knockneed, bandits....
