Forum meet for beginners,any intrest?

Cheers madandra,i have had so many kind offers from you lot i might not need to host my own meet for a warm up! If you other beginners are still up for it,let me know or PM me if you fancy a game. :D

Deke.

This is only going to be my third full season of golf and I've yet to manage a handicap cut. I've played with quite a few of the Scottish guys on here and they're all, without exception, really good lads.

I play at Gifford through in East Lothian. It's a nine hole course with some of the holes having alternate tee positions for a bit of variety and it's a nice easy course to walk. You're welcome to join me for a knock if you fancy a warm-up game before a round with the big boys! :D ;)

Cheers DelB, appreciate the offer, nice to get offered a game by so many guys! Again I will PM you soon. Thanks again for all offers forum buddies,I am most chuffed by your soundness! :D :D :D

Hello forum pals. After being sorely tempted by some GM forum meets, but been put off due to the high amount of low handicappers and my lack off experience(also the fear of looking like a total hacker in front of decent players)an idea struck! As i have seen a lot of new members who haven't been playing long and a fair few who have been playing for only a year or two, would you good folk be interested in a forum meet for us newer, less confidant players? I think it would be a great idea! Let me know what you think, cheers. :D

You had an invite to Machrihanish, you would have been made more than welcome, don't be afraid to join in because its only fun, I'll help you look for your ball if you help me look for my club after I've launched it 60 yards into the bushes! :D

Cheers Craw.I would have went to machrihanish if i could have got the time off work.Keep me in mind for the next one, hopefully it will be on a date i can get off.

Deke, I've played a good few forum meets including both England - Scotland matches. Played the first one of those off 25 and had nothing but encouragement from everyone. Just take the ribbing as it comes and give as good as you get.

I'd echo what's been said, once you meet Dodger you'll realise what a pussycat he is.

Dont worry viscount17,after the response to my thread i am more than happy to attend the next meet i can! This really is the most helpful forum possible! Cant thank you all enough. ;) ;) ;)

Good stuff golfboysatty! Glad to see a fair few of you are into this. After we get a few more names down,i will start a thread in the arrange a game forum, and we can discuss the details/location.

Just get stuck in to a "normal" forum meet. Nobody will take the blindest bit of notice how you play. Honestly.
I think one of the things that can be a little offputting to a "newbie" is seeing all the clubs people list in their signatures. Stiff shaft this, 8 degrees that, fancy names etc. some you've never even heard of.
And when you turn up, in awe, waiting to see them hit these magical clubs, (that you could only ever dream about owning), you soon realise that they may have well put "lump of lead on the end of a bit of 4x2" for all the good they hit 'em. :D :D :D :D

As I say, get stuck in.

You're more likely to be blinded by the garish clothes worn by the forummers than the sparkling golf on offer. :(

Get involved!! Playing with better players is one of the best ways to improve.

Best golf I ever played was when I played a 36 hole open with a +4 handicap player. I'm a hacker in comparison to him but just reinforcing the point that others have made that playing with better golfers definitiely helps your focus and you will probably pick up some good pointers.

Have played 4 forum events and enjoyed them all. Everyone gets a wee bit keyed up teeing off in front of strangers etc but it's good experience and stands you in good stead for future comps like Club champs when the pressure is on.

Just join in, there are more forum events in Scotland than anywhere else I think so it should be easy.

Cheers Kev.It certainly looks like we have enough interested parties,I will do some research and then put a post up in the arrange a game forum. Thanks again for all contributions !

I went to my first forum meet at Chartham Park a few months ago and was made to feel very welcome. Got chatting to James (Justone) when I arrived and Smiffy got a standing ovation when he arrived :D :D. Some good banter and off we went.

I played with Justone, Auburn Warrior and Lefty - a top group and slightly intimidating as I was very rusty! I managed to hack around and it was clear that the others in the group play a lot more golf than me, but it didn't stop the day being really enjoyable.

Looking forward to some more meets in 2011 - I know I am echoing others sentiments, but its better to have a mix of abilities at these events than a load of single figure players (which I aint!!).

Nail on head methinks
