I used to drive them a lot when I lived in the US.. workhorse. Never really drove it in the U.K. - I did have a Jaguar X-type which was basically an unreliable Mondeo in those days.

Any Mondeo men who have happy/sad memories of it...
 
Bought one new in 2003. It was already rusty. Engineer said it looked like it had been sitting on the docks for several months. Rejected it for a refund.
Drove them a lot at work. Bland and sloppy to drive. Give me a Focus or a Fiesta any day, if it has to be a Ford.

I had an X type sovereign 2.2 Diesel, it was the most reliable car I ever had.
 
Had a few Mondeo’s over the years. Never had any major mechanical issues with any of them. Easy drives, especially on the motorway and the last one had a boot big enough to float the titanic in!
My last one got passed along only a couple of weeks ago when I traded in for a new Volvo V60 (the delivery guy told me then that they were stopping it’s production so there must have been a few solid rumours in the trade).
 
Had a few over the years when I was taxiing, the mk3 is till the best. I drive one now. 54 plate 2.0tdci. Needed a cheap to run reliable workhorse and this thing ticked the boxes. Well over 100k on the clock but still purrs along, 50+mpg on a motorway, and its the 130bhp variant so still holds its own away from the lights. I'll run it into the ground, or until the flywheel goes, whichever is first...
 
I had a couple of mk3s. Really liked them, but then the engine started to cut out (first time on a dual carriageway) on the second one and the garage couldn’t work out why, so got rid of it.

Our suv barely wakes up if on the school run.. the catalytic barely warms up on the 4-5 mile trip. But on the daily 80 mile commute on the motorway, the x-series is a joy.
 
No Mondeo but bought a Sierra in about 1994 that I really liked and that served us exceedingly well for about 3 yrs before changing to new Rovers through work. New was nice - Sierra was better.
 
It is a sign of the times that a number of manufacturers have now abandoned the family hatchback/saloon to be replaced by Crossovers. To be honest, you don't see that many on the road now compared to equivalent size models. I don't think it even makes the top 20 anymore in terms of sales.
The Mondeo is just one amongst many.

  • Honda Accord
The other thing to remember is that modern small family cars such as the Focus are now taking over for most people. A lot of people seem to prefer the crossovers or SUV's due to them perceived as being safe (although they're not) and the higher seating position.
 
Apart from the fashion for SUV’s, what was smaller cars are no longer small. It seems every car that has a length of build years has gone up a size bracket.
 
Had one of the rarer versions, a 4 wheel drive estate until one of the pulley wheels in the timing belt assembly went. Huge boot and did what it said on the tin, but I could see how it was nicknamed the Mundane.

Might have been the last car I had with 3 pedals... :unsure:

agree.. massive boot. The Jaguar x-type boot could take over sofa in the boot..

Speaking of size.. all cars gone up. None of them fit thru Garage doors anymore.. so end up being parked in the driveway..
 
Always owned Fords due to a dealer in the family. Traded up to a Mondeo from a Sierra and thought it was the bees knees. Now driving a Kuga which is sluggish in comparison.
 
I drive a Mondeo. A fabulous fit for my away golf trips, can easily seat 3 adults and the boot swallows 3 bags and 3 electric trolleys.

Quiet, comfortable and economical so does me just fine.
