For those in need of a chipper

To the naysayers, I'm curious.

Do do you all use permission woods and blades with balata balls?

Imo how you see the game should determine what you use.

if you're stuck in 28 but love blades for the rush of those few pure strikes a round, good luck to you.

If you're off 2 bit prefer gi irons as they help you feel confident go ahead.

But to pour scorn on someone who is trying to improve and use a club that helps (7 wood, chipper) is poor form imo.

If i felt I needed either of them I'd go straight ahead and use em.

that said, they do look pretty ugly!

this is pretty much spot on.

If a club is legal why are we as a golfing community so up in arms about things.

If a club improves somebody's play why should we judge them. the aim is to get the little white ball in the small hole in as little shots as you can.

How?

As far as I can tell this just seems to be the latest version of an existing product line within their wedge range and it doesn't appear to be 'extreme' in its design

Honestly it might be worth you reviewing these or other chippers... or even put them up against a 'traditional' wedge (for want of a better adj) in a kind of 'chip-off' contest

No thanks. Happy with where I am. I just don't see why Cleveland would want to introduce it into their range. I can't for one second see Vokey and Titleist coming out with an equivalent and given the way many view this type of chipper type club what Cleveland will gain as I can't see them shifting huge numbers of units

Given the woeful state of my short game, I am seriously thinking of getting a chipper

Nowt wrong with a chipper buddy, got one in the bag at the moment, saves my sorry ass several shots per round, I can chip with an iron but I get this nasty little sideways flick when I use one which I don't get with the ole 'Texas wedge' so 'she's a keeper' as they say...

Couldn't the same be said for aimpoint though:

...and given the way many view this type of green reading what Instructors will gain as I can't see them shifting huge numbers of units...

Completely your choice of course but I do see what could be described as double standards in your approach to shooting lower scores and maybe your own reservations and hang-ups about chipping clubs is preventing you reaching your single figure goal (although I'd hate to think you miss out based on any insecurity of what others would think about your choice of equipment)

But obviously you know better than most that you have to be happy with the gear you're using so I guess its a tool you cant benefit from

Some see "helper" clubs as an attack on the spirit of the game, inside the rules but "bending" them to help someone do a specific task.

In reality specialist clubs are a part of the history of the game, some going as far as having a hole in the middle!

This specialism fell away as the game became more standardised.

I don't mind these clubs but I think the act of so overtly seeking to gain an advantage in a specific area offends people... "I can't be beaten by someone using an X"

Cleveland have already had chippers in their range. They make clubs for the tour player and the weekend golfer.

Bob vokey is too busy knocking out expensive wedgeworks custom wedges to make this kind of club.

This is also what oddessey have made too with their tank chipper. My brother has one.

Funny thing is wedge in particular is designed to be used with a square face so you align straight with it. It has a generous sole which is also designed to help the user utilise the bounce of the club. The perfect weapon for linear users. Hint hint. ;)

Sadly pride often prevents people using the best equipment for them

Usually it's those with an ego, the wannabe Pro' s, whether that's juniors with blades & all the matching gear from one OEM, or the mid/high handicapper with chipping/pitching yips

Really, who cares if you use a chipper or a sure out wedge etc if that's best for your game

Drop the pride and drop the handicap...

That said, luckily chipping is my strength and I love my 3 Vokey's 😃

The sole on that Cleveland 58 looks really good.

If you are put off by the looks then check out the vokey k grind. Absolute weapon of a club. I thought I would only use it in winter and never at links but it is now in my bag every time. Big wide sole. Brilliant.
