Should top level players be criticised or supported for not wearing the poppy on their shirt as James McClean and Nemanja Matic have chosen to do, or should they even need to give a reason for not wearing one.

Simplest option is that poppies should not be on football shirts. The current situation puts pressure on to players, highlights those who don't wish to wear them. If players want to wear poppies then they can on their way too and from the game. During the match it is unnecessary.

No one should have to explain why have don't wear a poppy. The pressure on people is bullying.

As long as people respect the people who made the sacrifice then that’s all anyone can ask. It’s a shame that the poppy is starting to get more and more political and the whole idea of it is starting to drift away

Hopefully there will be enough people left who will continue to educate people the meaning of the poppy

No one should be criticised for deciding not to wear a poppy, just as no one should be criticised for deciding to wear one.

I believe it should be personal choice rather than dictated by club, FA etc.

Agreed, but here's a curve ball, every single person you see on TV around this time of year is wearing one, i.e. football pundits/newsreaders/xfactor judges, contestants etc etc, do you believe everyone of they does it through choice or not wanting to look out of place and be subsequently criticised.

My very point.

No it isn't. Your "very point" was that "every single person you see on TV around this time of year is wearing one, i.e. football pundits/newsreaders/xfactor judges, contestants etc etc, do you believe everyone of they does it through choice or not wanting to look out of place and be subsequently criticised". I've pointed out someone that isn't one of your "every single person" that is wearing one.

I appreciate your point, but look at the abuse she has received!
I wear the poppy every year on the day. But I am increasingly concerned with the appropriation of the symbol by groups who use it to promote ultra nationalism.
