Food & Drink During Round

I take 3 bottles of flavoured water or isotonic stuff, a banana and an apple. Love choc and occasionally sneak a bar in but feel it counter balances any benefit of the 4 miles exercise i'm getting. Definitely think you should not be hungry on the first.

Scrambled eggs and brown toast/bagel before I leave the house, a few granola bars and about a litre of water while i'm on the course.

Then 3 pints of lager once i'm finished ;)

Ie been known to walk onto the first tee with anything from a cup of coffee and a chicken tikka wrap to a Maccy D's bacon and egg McMuffin to a bottle of water and an apple.
To be honest, I dont remember playing particularly better with any one over the other. I certainly felt more satisfied after the B&E McMuffin though and wasnt thinking of my stomach the rest of the way round.
What? do you think 6'1" of hunka hunka burnin love got to that size eating museli?

You look like a McDonalds scoffer in that picture. Only good for the supersize golfer I guess.

for me it's porridge n banana for breakfast, i then make my isotonic drink ( 1 litre of water 1 gram of salt 3 teaspoons of sweetner and 200 ml of orange concerntrate ) and sip at every tee, i eat cashew nuts and cereal bars on the way round... all in all it keep me as fresh walking down the 18th as i am walking down the first

Scrambled egg, bacon and toast before the round, may be a bacon sandwich half way round, 2 bottles of fanta, some chewing gum, and then a cheeseburger when I have finished, washed down with London Pride. Proper athlete me.

Hi,
You should avoid too much processed pork when doing excerise as it has a acid similar to lactic acid and can cause cramps, Hippygilmore has the perfect food for a round of golf will have to try the home made drink. I saw a interview on sky last year and they asked 10 pros what they had for brekkie and 8/10 said oatmeal/porraige so if its good enough for them.

The pros are talking very small margins and cover all angles but at our level it's a nonsense to think it makes any appreciable difference.

Let's face it golf isn't that energetic. It's just a walk in the fresh air for a few hours. Obviously when it's hot it's important to keep hydrated so take plenty of water. If being a bit hungry for the last few holes might put you off then stick something in your bag to eat, a banana if you like bananas or a Mars Bar if you like Mars Bars more.

Personally I can go 4 hours between meals so normally don't bother but that said, I usually play just after lunch so the time of the round is a factor.

Morning round: a sausage and bacon sandwich/baguette (time allowing) with a cup of coffee in the clubhouse.

ITB: Mars bar and Kit Kat in the bag with a banana, two bottles of sports drink and a water bottle.

Afternoon round: Cereal for breakfast, two grated cheese, grated onion and salad cream rolls, bag of crisps and a bar of chocolate.

I've got to keep my worms happy..

I usually just take a drink used to drink lots of flavoured isotonic drinks but now just tend to stick to the water varitey of powerade or lucosade other than that water very seldom eat anythink and if i do it will be a choclate bar at the tenth!!!

Does all that preperation stop you shooting 87?

Usually have a couple of crunchy bar thingies in my bag or a flapjack or two depending on how organised I am. If not its whatever takes my fancy on route to the GC!

breakfast is essential (greater risk of migraine without), sometimes two - cereal before I leave home and the ubiquitous bacon roll at the club (except at mine as they are a bit silly at £6+ for ciabatta and all the decoration).

chuck a cereal bar or two in the bag, where they often stay until unusable, roll of mints sometimes.
water, or isotonic drink - unless it's cold when it's wobbly coffee.

I usually have a couple of Elevenses or NutriGrain bars in the bag during the round and a bottle of water. This isn't for any particular nutritional purpose, I just don't want to worry about chocolate meting etc when the weather gets a bit warmer.

Off-course, I just eat a bot of whatever I fancy. Sometimes a full english in the clubhouse, sometimes a bowl of muesli at home. Depends how I feel. I don't think at 28 handicap level my diet will really affect my game. I could probably do with sorting out my loopy swing first!

I’ve never given it a moments thought that I should be eating the ‘right’ foods to help me on the way round. This thread has actually convinced me I should be. I understand those that scoff at the idea as we’re not pro’s but it seems to me eating the right things can only help you. At worst you’re no better off, at best you’re a couple of shots to the good maybe or more. Ofcourse there’s no tangilbe way of measuring it. I’d say eating ‘right’ can be likened to improving your fitness, but improving your fitness is hard work.

Now then instead of a couple of pints after we’re done what about an ice bath………..????
