Hi Folks
Am just reviewing my strategy for the 2010 season, and wondered what food & drink is best for adding to the bag for consumption during the round. I notice the pro's have bananas & water. but waht do you recommend? and when is the best time to have these (obviously when thirsty or hungry)
I am new to the forum and look forward to contributing.

Ie been known to walk onto the first tee with anything from a cup of coffee and a chicken tikka wrap to a Maccy D's bacon and egg McMuffin to a bottle of water and an apple.
To be honest, I dont remember playing particularly better with any one over the other. I certainly felt more satisfied after the B&E McMuffin though and wasnt thinking of my stomach the rest of the way round.

As a diabetic I have to try and avoid the sports drinks and coke so tend to go for bananas, raisins and plenty of water. If it is really hot I do occasionally have a sports drink as well but not often

You look like a McDonalds scoffer in that picture. Only good for the supersize golfer I guess.

Lots at the moment:

Thermos flask with tea or coffee
Bottle filled with some sort of squash
Original Lucozade (just rediscovered it)
Bananas
Chocolate bar

And my hip flask filled with home-made Damson Gin.

I have the odd Mars bar whilst I'm playing, hate bananas so no good for me. I'd puke!
I take the odd isotonic drink out with me, but keep getting told off by the missus 'cos I don't drink enough anyway. Quite often I come back from a game and still have a bottle and a half left out of the two bottles I've taken out with me!
If it's a really hot day in the middle of Summer I will just make up some lemon squash the night before and freeze it. Pop them in the bag as I leave home and by the 2nd or 3rd hole they have started thawing out so I get a nice ice cold drink all the way round. Depending how hot it is, the 2nd bottle usually still has ice in it well into the back 9.
I find the odd cigarette helps on the way round and if I've just four putted a green I've been known to smoke three or four at the same time....   ;)

Shortbread or anzac biscuits HID makes specially for my golf and I drink just water and lots of it. Dont wait until you feel hungry or thirsty you want to be taking on liquids all the time. Food needs to have a slow release of its energy so you dont get a sugar high which will be followed by a low. The best thing really is to have topped up your energy levels a couple of hours before playing and then just light snack through the round

If you only drink when you're thirsty, you're already dehydrated. You should drink before you go out, water or isotonic, and then drink frequently during the round. In the summer I take 2 bottles of lucozade sport and take a sip at the start of each hole.

You should also eat before you go out, which I tend not to do if I'm starting at 7:30, so the bacon roll at the halfway hut is my staple, along with a bite of snickers at each tee. I'd be better off having porridge or meusli beforehand, and a banana or flapjack during the round.

Hi,
You need to drink before you are feeling thirsty as u are dehydrated at that stage and for every 1% u are dehydrated your concentration drops by 10%, Chocolate should be avoided as it gives u a very short high followed by a drop in energy usually.
The best meal plan diet for a golfer would be Porridge in the morning drink plenty of water or a sports drink and a chicken sandwich and fruit and nuts during the round or if you are playing in the afternoon pasta and chicken for lunch.

Thanks Mike :D.

Meanwhile back on planet amateur hacker, it's a double sausage & egg muffin + water before an early round or ham, egg & chips + lager before an afternoon round :D

Water Bananas and Flapjacks during the round, and a good breakfast if off early. and of course a quick call at the halfway house for a top up. Do agree with the keeping topped up during the round if you wait until hungry or thirsty its to late.

Hi ,

I carry anything thats left in the cupboard at home , if I can sneak it pass the other half. If not I have anything unhealthy from a cafe on the way to the club. Also I acrry a bottle of water that has been in the bag since the last round.

Cheers

Midnight...
