Have you asked for the flag to be tended in the last year.

How is it wasting time standing there holding a flag - what time is wasted exactly , what else would you be doing instead

I would be standing by my ball, checking the line and ready to putt. At my club, some of the greens are 50 yards long. Can be a lot of ground to cover and time wasted if tending is required. Thankfully, those day are very nearly gone.

“Could” - again use common sense on who tends the flag and when they putt

It’s no different to if someone wants the flag out in a group and someone wants it in but is closer - surely as grown adults it’s not hard to figure out between a group of you

Wouldn’t you walk to the flag and take it out 🤷‍♂️ so you walk to the flag and tend it instead

when I played last week we left the flag in on putts that previously would of been tended and had the flag out once everyone was close enough to see the hole without the flag.
I presumed this was pretty much the norm for most groups/players?
If anyone had of asked for the flag to be tended it would have been done with courtesy and maybe a bit of friendly banter.
Is this not what normally happens with others?

Quite.

Honestly…the amount of ‘if it doesn’t suit me I’m not doing it’ being displayed (by others) in this thread beggars belief.

It’s just a simple courtesy to adhere to a polite request from another player. Just do it for goodness sake and give up trying to find reasons to not do it. Just because I may not want to do something does not mean that it isn’t the right thing to do.

I don’t like putting with the flag in , but on some holes I can’t see the bottom of the hole so asked for the flag to be tended until I putt so I can see where the hole is - then as soon as I hit my putt the flag comes out

It’s very simple and doesn’t waste any time at all

Maybe I’m lucky I play with people who use common sense and act like adults around the course being aware of others
I'm with you on this.
There's a time to ask for the flag to be attended and it's when the individual asks for it to be attended.
This thread is providing me with the evidence I need to prove my theory that some people are incapable of empathy or understanding a different view.

What do you mean…😉

Who in this thread has said they won't do it ? You understand the reverse is also true ?

Yes , the poll shows most just get on with it as they understand that it's a massive waste of time and the rule changed means it's unnecessary.

The poll only asks whether we would ask for it or not. Just because I can't see the point of it, doesn't mean I would flatly refuse - if someone did ask me, I'd have a good laugh about the fact I haven't been asked to tend the flag in five or six years, but then do it for them. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Yes I was really just curious if anyone was still asking, as it's now basically a defunct and completely pointless action for most.

If it’s such a rarity for some why are you bothered if there are people out there that have it tended on an occasions that may help them 🤷‍♂️
Ive not read that anyone's bothered or won't do it.
If your in a greenside bunker and can't see the hole just the top half of the flag , do you have it tended ? Asking for a friend
