Im interested to know if anyone is still actually having the flag tended, no more, no less.

No, If I can see the cup well enough to determine my line I have it out, if i can't I leave it in. Tending the flag just adds to the foot traffic around the hole. Not so much of a problem in firm conditions but when the greens are softer it will have a slight detrimental effect on those putting when the hole been in that position for some time.

Have tended the flag a couple of times for someone who likes the flag out but for long putts or two tiered greens sometimes has it tended

He doesn’t ask in the winter
Seems a bit random, each to his own I guess.

I have had it tended on possibly just two occasions in the last year....both on long (>25ft) putts and both where it has been very windy. I like the flag in for longer shots as it gives me something to focus on target wise, so would normally just putt with it in, however on these occasions the wind was blowing the flagstick around so i asked for it to be tended and the flag removed once the ball was on its way. For shorter putts I find the flagstick to be a distraction so always have it removed.

Once the flag is out though it stays out...I have no truck with folks wanting it put back in once its been removed.

Never that I can recall since the rule changed. I putt with pin in or out according to others preference, other than long putts where I like it in as a target.

No, of course not. It stays in for 95% of putts. Occasionally on short holeable ones I might take it out depending on mood. But I can't think of a single reason to have it tended - the only purpose of that was to stop you getting a penalty for hitting the flag stick, but it's no longer a penalty.

Apart from when it is so windy the flag is not sitting straight, we have not taken the flag out for what seems like years.....
There have been a few occasions where we have thought a putt would've dropped if the flag was out... But also it has worked the other way..

Yes same here , can't imagine wasting someones time asking them to tend it.

I have never asked for the flag to be attended since you were allowed to leave it in.

I can only recall being asked to tend the pin twice in total in all that time.

Personally, I would like to see that option removed from the rules.

What we can see is that everyone is different and people have different preferences

So just crack on with the way you want to play and don’t worry about others

Not sure why anyone would be bothered by someone who would like the pin attended - there is no harm to anyone
You say that, but at my old club there was a guy who wanted the flag tended on virtually every putt. Even after the flag was out he wanted it tended from about 8 feet. I kid not.

It was exhausting!

thats quite a selfish attitude don't you think? Crack on and don't worry about others ?
Waste there time as long as you're happy 🤷

How are you wasting another players time if it is you to putt. Anyway. This is a debate that has been had (too) many times before and it goes nowhere…peace 🙏

And 🤷‍♂️ what’s wrong with that ?

If that’s how he wants to play the game

It’s a not big hardship to tend a flag

It’s no different to flag in and out on a hole when some want it in some want it out - just use common sense

No more selfish than having issues with someone who wants the flag tended

Are we not grown up enough to use common sense

If someone wants it out then it’s out

If they want it in then it’s in

And if tended then tend it
