One of the reasons put forward several times is pace of play.

Let’s just look at that for a second… you’re in a fourball. On each of the 18 holes any combination want the flag in/out. Consider how long it takes to walk 10 yards to attend it. If the next closest person to the hole attends the flag he isn’t delaying play when he walks back to his ball. Then there’s several holes when all 4 might want it out or left in.

Just how much time are we talking about wasting here? 10 holes X 30 seconds… 5 minutes? Those that are talking about pace of play… really…?
What about a 2 ball?

You dont play enough then.

I played last year with a pair of Yorkshire men in the Moray Open.

On the first I said " once the flag is out it stays out hey lads?"

The reply from one of them " I like puttin' wit' flag in, so it goes back in"

He had two bounce outs in the first four holes from close range and after that, once the flag was out, it stayed out.
🤷 I play with plenty and it's evident that it's a rule change that's been widely embraced. This is evident in both the amateur and professional game.

The mythical flag hokey cokey that just isnt a thing.the time wasting comes from people asking for the flag to be tended from 30 odd feet. Although TBF it's only seems to be GM members that are asking.

I dont disagree...I was just sharing an anecdote that showed there are folks out there who don't play golf according to your experience where you say... I've not encountered anyone who wants the flag back in after its out , once out it stays out.

There's definitely one bloke in Yorkshire who wants it back in....of course, he might have changed his mind during the last year. :D

Not played with anyone who wants the flag attended, although of course I would if they did. Personally, if I can see the hole I have it out, unless there's nobody close enough to remove it without delaying play. Otherwise, leave it in. I hole virtually all my putts regardless. Well, nearly.

Always still ask for it tended, think subconsciously standing over a putt the head still thinks penalty if the flags not out
