Fitting new grip to wide shaft?

I have fitted new grips to quite a few clubs in the past and was quite confident when a mate asked me to fit one to his graphite shafted 7-wood.

However, having taken the old one off I am struggling to see how to get the new one on as shaft is much wider (20mm) than the opening on grip (13mm). Just can't see how to ease it on.

So, my question is.....do grips come in different sizes and should I (he) be looking for one with a wider opening?

Grips do come with different bore sizes.

The correct way is to measure the diameter of the of the butt and buy accordingly

Larger grips tend to be .62 diameter there might be .64 available.

For a one off I would direct him to the pro, could get costly for you at best...
