So, my new irons arrived on Saturday and, as luck would have it, I had a game on Sunday.... :D

It wasn't a comp, just the Sunday swindle so not too much pressure.

I had a good, long chat with myself during the drive to the club. I told myself that I was playing with new irons and that I had no idea how I would hit them, how long/short they'd go or, indeed, whether I'd be able to hit them at all!!

I started on the 10th tee and oiked my drive left into the rough.... I decided to hit a punchy six iron....big debut for the six iron....I hit a low, stubby 'pull' into the saplings.... No other option but to chop out onto the fairway.... PW to the right of the green.... one chip and a putt - nice solid 6 - nil point!!!!

Not the best of starts but, I kept reciting the mantra - 'new clubs, new era'.... :D

That was to be my only bad hole. I managed to keep the ball in play for the rest of the round and the irons, well, a HUGE improvement on my last set of irons!! Some of my shots felt like air shots - I'd hit the ball right out of the sweet spot!! Something I rarely did with my old irons. I hit 12 greens in regulation - a vast improvement for me, coupled with improved chipping which took the pressure off my putting.

I ended up with 38 points and, more importantly, I won £50 for coming first!! :D

Not bad for the clubs first outing.

I hope this honeymoon period lasts about 10 years.... :D

The only downside of these new wunderclubs - I want to keep them looking as good as possible so I've bought iron covers. Sorry all you golfing purists out there.... :o

Nothing wrong with iron covers in my book matey. Got some for the TM TP's and haven't regretted it. They still look great. I presume these are the C/F clubs from your Harrington day. Not a bad start then. I wonder if you could get GM to feed back to him how well they performed (or at least the Wilson fitters)

The very same my good man!! :D

I hope GM do pass on my thanks/performance review.

You had to ruin what was otherwise a good read! :D

Nice shooting! :)

I'll make my usual offer of £100 for when you want to sell 'em :D :D :D

Now, thats quite an offer for a set of second-hand iron covers.

Nice arent they AW.......Im still pining afetr my FG's :(

Well wear mate....hope they keep giving you a good return ;)

I thought you weren't so shabby with your old sticks. £50? How many people were you playing? At £1 a pop I can't believe there are that many idiots willing to take you on.

Hope they continue to perform. Well, til we play again anyway.

I know you can't say for sure but how much would you put there feel down to the custom fitting and shaft choice and how much down to the actual club head? I can't remember, what irons did you have before and were they custom fit? Thx.

Oh and once again huge congrats on the clubs and first round.

Nice one mate - hope they continue to help you improve your game and your handicap.

Oh and once again huge congrats on the clubs and first round.

I had Cleveland CG reds tour spec 4-7 iron and Mizuno TP9 8-PW - neither were custom fitted.

I remember thinking on the day of the fitting that the Wilson's felt much better. The Clevelands and the Wilson have the same shaft so it must be the club head.

When I got the Wilson's on Saturday and held them for the first time (see how I used the 'baby' analogy there.....) they simply feel superior clubs. I can 'feel' the clubhead at the end of the shaft whereas with the Clevelands, they felt like one unit so I had little feel of the clubhead.

I was surprised at how much I could feel the difference between the shafts. I thought that only pros and elite amateurs would be able to tell the difference - I was wrong! We tried different Rifle shafts and a Project X shaft but the one that gave me the best results and, more importantly, felt the best was the Dynamic Gold S300s.

Great advert for custom fitting....38 with a blob!! I always knew your handicap was too high!! :D

My official handicap will probably stay at 10 but my Redlibbets Sunday morning swindle handicap is now 8!!!

I want it lower than that..... :)

Thanks very much for the feedback. Very interesting what you said about the way you can feel the club head not the whole club as one untit. I think I know exactly what you mean.

My irons have been great for me and it would be hard for me to say anything bad about them uptill now but they are old tech and when I hit newer irons they always feel more alive, as you say, you can feel the head not just the club as a unit. I guess I would have to say they feel a little inert when put up against the new school tech.
