First Tee Nerves

Doesn't everyone secretly hope that the guy in the loudest, lairiest trousers tucked under his paunch, nobbles it just short of the red tee off the 1st?

The loud trousers are there to deflect from the knobbed t shot :D

I'm a fan of IJP tartan and also wear white trousers :D

Heard many comments as I'm about to tee off from people

Probably the biggest crowd was at H4H Northants GC, I went off the 1st with Mike Harris (Sir), Sandy from GoKart and one other and we did have something like half the field watching but strangely I felt quite relaxed and we all hit quite decent tee shots!

Someone must have the link to timygolf tee shot at Beau :o

Ha ha great adaptation :D

Is that from a forum meet?

Not a GM one, it's an annual Mizuno meet and that was on the 1st at Frilford Heath, I knew I was reaching, I didn't feel comfortable, and yet we never stand back and just say in our head, "your getting it" 😂

Can anybody explain why you turn in to such a nervous wreck on the first tee?

For those that no longer fear the gaze of a thousand golfers (2-5 in reality) waiting to go next, what did you do fix this and nail your first shot of the day?

Is it just a matter of not caring as much or being even more intense? I just can't seem to get rid of that anxious feeling and generally the 1st shot of the day is my worst.

I should add this is only in front of people you aren't really comfortable with, friends and family it's the opposite, you look forward to it!

Do you warm up or simply swing the club a few times on the first tee. A few nerves aren't a bad thing if you can control them. How far is your first hole and what's your strategy

That was you? :D

Love the way you instantly took another swipe, and hit it!
Don't think I'd have thought of that so quickly :)

Well, we start from 4 different holes! Par 3 210 yds on the 1st, which I hit low and left into the trees or Sunday, Par 5 from 11, topped and went about 20 yards....oh dear.

I think I'm conscious of being "that" golfer that has a long PSR, so generally get up, get comfy and hit it, pretty ridiculous. I do for the most part hit some in the nets before hand, and when there's only the three of us past the 1st I take my time, but just can't apply that level of composure on the first tee (which ever hole it starts from!)

Might need to be a bit more selfish on the 1st next time and not strike till I'm really ready.

What's his strategy, you having a laugh, he's a 19 handicapper (no offence) like me, our "stratergy" is to get a clean strike and hopefully it goes down the fairway, on the left, right or anywhere in between.

Ha, none taken! Yep, on the par 5 I took my 3 wood and just hoped for a good swing on the fairway, not trying to belt it into next week. It's that surge of adrenaline that takes over...I've given stand up presentations to hundreds of people with no issue. Guess I'm good at my job, pants at golf and nobody likes to look foolish.

Most nervous I have been was on the first at Ullesthorpe, my first time playing alongside fellow forumites (Fish, Crow and Dave). Fortunately I hit a decent drive.

Last two comps back at my own club, I've topped and pulled my drive 60 yards into the rough! On those occasions I had been down the range first. After that I relax and think that it an only get better from here.

Nope. If it's a tough opener (there are a few around) and with it being a shot hole, why not play it as a par 5 three shotter (assuming its a par 4) and take an iron off the tee and then two mid irons rather than trying to hit driver/3W for distance and risking going into trouble and starting with a high score. A solid iron (assuming he hits it ok, therein lies the variable) will do a lot to calm the nerves

Not read all the posts so will apologise if ave missed summat.

but generally when do you tee off when in a fourball, first, last or when it comes.

Me I like to tee off first, saves hanging around and if your three pp smack it straight down the middle it puts more pressure on you.

if it's any consolation, our first is as simple as you would wish for, dint help Thursday when it went higher than further and is still sat in the orchard somewhere
