First h/cap..

I started on a 36 hcp as a 12/13 year old (the highest allowed in NZ), which dropped to 24 by the end of my first year. Similar to lots of others on here, I got down to 9 when I was about 15 or 16 and soon after gave it away for about 10 years. Without trying to open a debate about padded handicaps, I've always thought that it is harsh that the highest hcp allowed in the UK is 28 - there must be a lot of beginners who take a long time to even play to that. I'd expect that not too many beginners are able to shoot less than 100-110 in their early days.

First proper handicap this year and started off 12. Currently 10.4 and still hoping for single figures this year.

27 when i was around 11/12; can't quite remember.

I for one would not limit hcp's as I know many golfers of varying ages, in the 24+ range, who need every shot going. Removing these would make the game much harder and diminish the enjoyment and competitiveness. This is a different story to those who 'use' the system but I'm not going there.

Just been "awarded" my 28.... after 2 months of solid playing I've knocked about 20 strokes so i'll be about 18 naturally after the next 2 months  Just unfortunate the seasons coming to a close

In my defense the course is relatively tough!!!!

10......did cards on winter course, got hammered and probably should have been nearer 14/15. Went up to 12 over the next year or two which wasn't much fun tbh then my ability seemed to meet my h/cap, I got a bit of confidence, and at last started to enjoy playing in comps.

18 for me, down to 12 after a year - lowest was 7.5.

In the process of getting handicap back at new club, first card marked last night, 84 on a par 71 with SS of 71 including a triple 7 on SI 1. That would get me to 12 if that is my best card I believe? Although hoping I can break 80 in one of the next 2 rounds as didnt play well last night
