On my 6th medal/comp attempt ive just received my first ever cut! 26.5 > 25.3!
I have been waiting for the email since Sunday.
I wasnt sure if i would as i had a meltdown on the 16th Par4 (3 off tee scored 7) & 17th Par4 (5 off tee scored 10!!)

Happy Days

as far as I understand these things, for handicap cuts anything more than 2 over (revised pars) is only counted as 2 over. So scoring 10 is akin to scoring 7, say...

I might have that wrong... I've yet to hand my first card in! Feel free anyone to offer a correction.

You are correct, handicap is effectively calculated using the stableford score, so the minimum score on any hole is 0 points, nett double bogey, and scores worse than nett double bogey have no greater effect on handicap.

I think that only relates to actually getting a handicap. Once you've got your handicap then the 10 stands.

Happy to be corrected though.....

Sorry, stableford correction applies to all handicap cards.

Are we talking about getting a handicap or getting cut after a monthly medal???

I know that when getting a handicap, anything over double bogey isn't counted but with the monthly medal, if I shoot 89 then the 89 stands.

When I got my handicap in January my best card had a 9 on it (!!!) which got reduced to 6 (par 4) but in some of the medals I've played this season I've posted more than double bogey and they've stood.

Are you saying that the >double should have been reduced???

Yes, although it is nett double bogey once you have a handicap.

The 89 stands as far as the prizes are concerned. A 10 is a 10 in a medal, but for handicap purposes, the stableford correction should always be applied.

I had a round where I had gross 80, nett 72, handicap 8, CSS 71, par 72. That is 36 points, against a CSS of 37 points. But there was an 8 on a par 4 in it on a non-shot hole, so for handicap purposes that corrected to a 38 points, and a reduction of 0.2.

Scores with a stableford correction are usually marked with an @ or * on the score sheet.

If your club fails to do this, they they are not following CONGU handicap rules.

That's very interesting. I'm going to re-visit some of my scores then.....
