First Comp of The Year and Looking Good

"As long at the course (tees you play from) is within 100 yards from the measured course ('the pegs') then you're okay..."

is that 100 yrds over the entire course? or per hole? one 210 yrd par 3 is now playing at about 100yrds !!

I thought you could get cut if its lift and place not sure though!!!

Preferred Lies and Embedded Ball rules as per the R&A are fine for handicap purposes (the made up irish rules for wetness are not though)...

Clubs are actually supposed allow/give members as much opportunity as possible to play in qualifying competitions to get their handicaps adjusted...it would be clear some clubs seem to be doing the complete opposite...

People forget that if the course/conditions are so hard then the CSS will go up accordingly and maybe even make the competition a reduction only or no increases affair...

Thanks for clearing that up. we dont play qualifiers in the winter at my club some say we should but IMO it gives a break from the strains of having a card and protecting your handicap instead having a bit if fun care free golf.

Ive been playing to about 5 recently too and not been cut at all!

Saying that there have been a number of comps with 50+ winning so at the minute its a bit of a farce, there's a review of the H'caps coming under the 'general play' ruling. Sooner the better!

It was my understanding that players can get cut in non qualifing events but it comes under General Play cuts so it would be whole shots only.
This excludes CAT 1 golfers and the lowest H/C that a player could be cut to is 5.5.

If the course is over 100 yards shorter from where the course is measured then the SSS is thrown out the window but can the club put a temporary SSS into play while it is playing shorter?? and can the CSS still be worked out without a SSS??
