I have been pleased with my overall game this summer getting my lowest score down to 80. I am however still struggling with putting and am not helping matters with constant changing of grips and wands. I have dabbled with the prayer grip, Left below right and think wayyyyyyyy too much. Is putting a bespoke art where I should adopt a technique that feels perfect for me or is there a reason why holding putter through lifelines should be more preferable than through fingers and thumbs straight down shaft for instance. I have been trying the Mel Reid grip where the little finger is placed between the thumb and fore finger on the shaft and like the feel, but this seems to place the putter more in the fingers rather than the palm!
Guess I'm just wondering if there is a definitive answer or if it works, go with what feels right! Doing my head in, chopping and changing! Sure it will be the difference to breaking 80 in the future

I don't think there's any right or wrong putting grip. Just try some out until you find one that feels comfortable and sends the ball on the line you want more often than not.

This is the right answer to me. Look at the pro's, plenty of different grips going on there. I went through about 3 in one season but I am pretty settled now. Try them all and find what suits you.

As long as your grip pressure is light and the ball gets sent on the correct line, then i don't think it matters.

Agree with other comments, most important thing is for the ball to run on the correct line. So any comfy grip will do that allows you to return the putter face square.

Cheers guys! Had a practice at AG on way home, went with original Tiger Reverse Overlap grip with thumbs straight down shaft! Doesnt seem to be through palms, but seemed to track to hole. Certainly gave me a bit of confidence, going to give this a spin on course

I just use a standard baseball grip when putting. It gives me more feel in my right hand compared to any of the other putting grips I have tried over the years.

What helped me was to think of the putt more as a pulling than a pushing motion (within reason). I think many grip variants, especially the claw and the left hand low are designed around that idea, but it also works with a 'conventional' grip. The reason is simple: if you have several moving parts, it is easier to get them aligned pulling than pushing. Imagine you have a little toy train with an engine and two cars. If you pull the engine, the cars just follow suit, but if you trie to push the train from the back, the kinetic chain breaks down pretty quickly.

All about ensuring the blade is square at impact and getting it on the right line and so whatever grip works effectively to do this. I work hard on putting from 1-6 feet and holing out and while I hold it in a conventional manner I do find a thicker grip helps
