OK, it's just the first round of the society matchplay but it's a great feeling none the less, especially as my opponent was playing more or less to his handicap (19).

I just got off to a flyer (par, bogey, birdie, par - all par 4's) and finished the front nine, six up. Came in handy as it creaked a bit on the back but wrapped it up on the 14th 5&4 having only played one hole on which I got a shot.

overall W W W W L W H W W, L H H L W (H W H W)

I played my 1st round match in the summer knockout yesterday in a real hoolie of a wind. Was 2 down with 3 to go and holed an 8 footer on 18 to go to extra time. Finally won on the 20th after he hit his drive OB.

Great feeling and well done for winning by such a good margin and good luck in thenext round

A flyer? That's an understatement! A 24 h/c should be about 6 over through 4 holes :D :D :D hehe

Many congrats on your victory!.. onward and upward into the next round :) You will have the low handicap guys shaking in there boots with that kind of performance!

Regards...

Well done on your victory. I also won my match in the first round of my society ko, defending the title that I won last year. Playing off my society handicap of 2 I was 2 under gross after 10 holes, and 3 up, closed out the match 5 and 3 and ended up finising with 35 points stableford gross 75 (par 72 which was only good enough for 3rd on the day. But on the plus side it has led to an handicap cut to 1 which is officially the societies lowest handicap ever :D

happily, it seemed that a lot slotted together, the driver came on song and the dreaded second shot only happened twice, and then in places I could recover from.

the one you'll be surprised at is that somehow, somewhere I found a short game; nowhere near perfect, length is too variable, but only left one in the bank, and wasn't leaving putts short.

the hard part will be doing it again - but I now know I can

happened too quickly to allow for practice, I was watching someone chipping a day or two before and copied his stance, it worked.

the putting, I got an ear bashing from a mate for not practicing before every round, so now I do.
