Films

Thursday Murder Club, finally it is here.

A very decent representation of the books, I'm content. It doesn't have some of the little details and touches that make the books so good but that's always difficult for films v books.

Pierce Brosnan really isn't Ron but we knew that from the moment he was announced. Presumably he is there to help sell it to the US market, the sacrifices that need to be made........🙄. Thankfully, he doesn't ruin it. He isn't Ron but he isn't terrible.

The rest are all cast well, the settings are spot on and it all rumbles along very nicely. It isn't brilliant but it is worth a watch if you like the books.

Thought it was strange it went to Netflix one week after it opened in cinemas. Given the popularity of the book, I would have thought it would do well at the box office before going to the streaming sites.

The wife is desperate to see it, so I guess that’s our Saturday night viewing sorted.

Not really , it was paid for and made by Netflix as a straight to streaming film. The cinematic release was to just make an extra few quid.

So many films now are made specifically for streaming because there’s more value in it.

Apparently it did great business at the cinema last week. That being the case, if it was about making a few quid, you’d think they would have given it a few more weeks before streaming?

Interesting article here

But then that negates the whole point of the. Netflix model. They release to cinema briefly to draw people in then get good reviews and then more people sign up to Netflix to watch it, end up signing up for say 6 months and a lot more money is made than one of cinema trips!

Apple, Prime etc all do the same. It makes them a lot more money in the long run and it’s why so many big stars now appear in the straight to streaming films. It’s not like the old days where it was B movies released straight to DVD the business model has changed and streaming services are raking it in as a result.

I haven't read the books yet but we really enjoyed it.
The books, as all books do, give more depth. In this series you get far more of the little quirks and fun touches. Joyce in particular will make you smile continuously throughout the books.

I'd also recommend his new series, We Solve Murder's. Same style of writing, different characters.

Finally watched it, not bad at all…

I always pictured Ron as Nosher Powell and I didn’t expect the Lucifer/Bond combo to work but it did…😁⚒️

I watched it today. It was ok. Having Mirren and Brosnan as main characters was weird and I kept expecting some dodgy Irish accents. I thought they got the Bogdan casting wrong and there was was quite a departure from the book involving him - which seems odd.

I know what you did last summer.

It’s not going to be for everyone, but if you liked the original & scream I’d recommend it.

I love a good cheesy slasher movie

Watched Bambi the Reckoning this afternoon.
The title is awful and was the best thing about the film.

I have no idea if it was a comedy a horror or what.

You have been warned!!!

Watched Flight Risk last night.
1 Didn't really get the wig business with Mark Wahlberg who played a great psycho.
2 Took me a while to recognise Michelle Dockery from Downton
3 I can't figure out why the "fugitive", Topher Grace is so familiar having studied his "Filmography".
I have an image of him playing a very similar personality but can't nail it.
Loved the air controller hitting on the pilot with promise of a date. Very funny.

Watched the Thursday Murder Club, to please my wife.
Enjoyed it and actually laughed a lot. Mostly at Piers Brosnam's portrayal of his character and delivery of his lines.
