felt slightly intimadated

Played with a lad at my old club last year in the club championship qualifiers off of +3. I'd never seen him at the club before that day, but I got it round in 4 over par 75 and was well chuffed as that was a PB at the time.

The young fella didn't particurlay play well as he was fighting with his driver after a couple months lay off, and then I saw his card that one of the other guys had been marking. He shot a 6 under par 65, that put it right into context for me about the difference of these good guys. He went onto win our Club Championships in the 36 holes final shooting rounds of 64, 66 without een breaking a sweat. The next I saw of himafter that was on TV at the british Am a few weeks after we had played and he made it to the matchplay stages.

Problem is we all aspire to be that good, but when they get to that level there are so many more just as good if not better.....

Played with a guy off +3 in an open once. It was great fun watching him nail them on the pin time and time again. He went on to win it by a country mile even with a bogey on a hole he had to birdie for par. I came in 9th and was a very happy chappy.

I played with my assistant pro in a Pro-Am last summer and he made every stroke just look so effortless. He must have thought I was on speed the way I was thrashing about at that time!

As a high handicapper you don't get the opportunity to play alongside really good players that often as they want to play with similar ability players themselves, great to watch when you get the chance though and you do pick up the odd thing to try and rush straight off to the range afterwards :)

My memories of playing with a pro was outdriving him on nearly every hole , my irons were pretty good & putting was ok,was chuffed signing for +6 or +7 (think i was 11h'cap at the time )and he shot -2 or 3 .. i was trying , he was just knocking it around ,, or at least it seemed that way :)

reality check or what

One of my best mates is a scratch golfers but hasn't played much over the last few years due to work but I love having a game with him because its so good to play with someone who has a great swings and makes it look so effortless plus gives you little tips and pointers too. I think it makes you play better too, bit like when I played football you somehow seemed to lift your game.

Never played with anyone that would be considered really good but when out with the single figure young lads at my club I always notice that they don't appear to be scoring as low as they are.

Played with a couple of good players in the Centenary Fina at Forest of Arden. Longer than me and more accurate but had a game plan and focussed on my game. We have some good players especially in the Sunday roll up with loads of single figure guys. It is easy to get intimidated especially with the banter involved but I'm trying to do things my way. I love watching good players, especially around the green. We've a guy off 5 and he has the ugliest most agricultural swin imaginable but get him withing 50 yards and he's deadly
