I slid/fell down an embankment, Monday last week (about 8ft), whilst retrieveing my partners ball. I jarred or twisted my left knee but thought nothing of it as I'd also wrenched my right shoulder over my head like a chicken wing and it hurt like hell (and still hurts now)

The next day I noticed that my knee had 'swollen up' in a puffy kind of way and there was a big bulb of waterey swelling (that felt like a pillow) just below my left kneecap and I could barely walk for 3 days.

Played golf with it on the Friday whilst on a hefty dose of Tramodol and although it's going down it seems to be hanging around... and I'm playing tomorrow so will have to take more drugs...

...will it go away of it's own accord?

Any sufferers of water on the knee?

sounds nasty.

had a fall myself one morning on the 3rd, the wooden steps were very slippy I landed on my rear, according to my wife the bruise was bigger than my hand, and it hurt like hell, still played 36 holes that day.

Nope but did a similar thing at work 2 years ago. Knee swelled up like a ballon and the pain was immense, couldn't even bend my knee without crying. Turns out I dislocated my knee and tore the ligament that is linked to my kneecap. Oh and to top it off I tore the meniscus(cartlidge). Six weeks off work and an MRI scan later the doctor tells me to repair it properly means an operation to reattach my kneecap correctly and 6 months off work. At first the doctor couldn't even tell what I had done due to the swelling. The point I am getting at is-get it checked out as it could be something more serious than just water on the knee.

A friend of mine injured his knee playing football a few years ago!!! He did not bother taking the time out to go and see the GP and now he cant play any sport!!!! Moral of the injury is make sure you get it cheked properly and follow the experts advice.

I had this and did go doctors. Like other person tore a ligament and cartlidge. Golf is only sport I play now...
Best to get it checked mate as there are so many moving parts inside the knee and it has the 'water' to protect what you have injured. Possibly just a strain but worth gettin checked only true way to see damage to ligaments is an MRI scan. Don't get fobbed off with an xray

I agree with checking it out and resting it. I pulled a knee playing squash some years ago and tore a cartlidge, that swelled up and ached like mad.

I can only add to the sentiment to get it checked out but assume taking it easy until is subsides will be order of the day.

I had similar on knees and elbows resulting from indoor 5 a side goalkeeping and the constant impact on the hard surface.

Will go after Chrimbo if it's still bad, playing at Blackmoor tomorrow and wild horses won't stop me scoring 21pts!:mad:

Well thats the R of RICE out of the equation then!

I'm guessing it can't be too painful if you're playing tomorrow, so in all probability it isn't ligament damage, will likely swell up a bit more in protest though. As others have said, if it doesn't clear up get it looked at....and not just by Smiffy in the locker room!
