I recently launched Stimp (stimpreports.com), where golfers can share real-time course conditions (think green speeds, fairway conditions, pace of play, etc.) so the rest of us know what to expect before booking a tee time. Think of it like a quick report card from whoever just played.

Benefits include:
  • It's completely free to use
  • Over 15,000 US courses are on it
  • Ability to follow courses you play
  • Free opt-in email sent every Monday morning, providing the conditions of the courses you follow
I would love to get your feedback. Feel free to poke holes in it. The more feedback I receive, the better Stimp can be.

A few things I'd genuinely love to know:
  • Is this something you'd actually use before booking a round?
  • Is creating a report easy?
  • What's missing that would make it more useful to you?
No pressure at all. If it's not useful, I want to know that too.

It went live this past week, so not many have seen it yet.
Thanks in advance for any feedback.

I, and most here are UK based. The chances of us even thinking of going Stateside for the next few years are probably zero.
I play at a members club, I am not bothered about following how the course is as I know what the course is.
I suspect you're barking at the wrong tree :)

Definitely doesn't help at the moment, but expansion into other areas is in another phase. I appreciate your feedback.

Interesting idea. I think there is a market to help people who are playing different courses. Less useful for regular members at their home club.

Are you expecting the course manager to update this every morning?

If you are relying on players: how will you maintain consistent output (everyone has a different view of what is good)? How are you going to get stimp readings?

Thanks for your feedback. It's definitely for those who play multiple courses or are traveling to a new golf destination.

It would be nice for course managers to make updates, but golfers have been my main focus at the moment. Courses being able to give "official" reports is on the to-do list.

As with any review, people will have different opinions, and I expect that. The reports are general, so it's not asking for an actual stimp number. That would be nice if the course could give that. It really is going to come down to how much this is used. If golfers are consistently providing reports, I could see courses jumping in.

The initial idea was to have a community-driven tool that is very easy to use.

Twenty people playing consistent golf in a community could make Stimp a very valuable resource for that area. We will see as this is just the beginning.

That is how they record it, my question is how do they measure it? Slow to one player is average to the next. Very dependent on their own course and what they are used to.
Correct. While the site is called Stimp, it's not the center of the report as there are other items. The goal is for golfers to submit their personal course rating after playing the course that day. One person's "fast" might be a little different from another's, but if multiple people are providing course reports, they should be able to get an idea.

On a side note, if the course wanted to add the exact stimp, they could in the notes section for now.
