Favourite Movie?

In my opinion. the Oscar for The Departed was one of those "guilt trip" oscars the Americans are so good at. Just think of poor Al Pacino receiving his oscar for Scent of a Woman. Quite possibly the worst film he ever had the misfortune to appear in. Or the previously mentioned Dances with Wolves. Guilty conscience = Oscar win.....

The Shawshank is an interesting one, yes it is a very very good film. It is still in not the best film ever. People still seem to pick it religiously though. Always perplexes me

maybe because your question was, favourite movie, whats yours ?
im sure the best film ever would start a whole different convo aswell .. i dont get the whole whoo haw reagrding Avatar , seemingly a great piece of film work , i thought it was ok , but... the Piano ? great film ? not to me ?

i loved Gladiator & the transporter movies (biast jason statham fan tho) platoon , full metal jacket , big red 1 . eagle has landed, see a trend ha? but also enjoyed Schindlers list ,& love comedys alot depends on the mood im in i supose ..

Tell ya a film i strangely enjoyed tho .. 12 angry men , a court jury arguing in a hot sweltering room ..

Apocalypse Now! Such an epic piece of work, almost 4 separate films. The Ride of the Valkyries helicopter scene with Robert Duval is what big screen TVs and surround sound are made for.

It's hard to pick between:-

Zulu
Life of Brian
Blues brothers

At one point it was Shawshank redemption, but since then every premiership footballer has picked it since.

Answering for when I was a 12 year old - Rocky 3.

Gerrin. I can still see myself running down Lime street shadow boxing....

You don't like Scent of A Woman??

The Departed was hardly a guilt trip as well, was there any other real contenders in 06 was completely justified in my opinion.

Fair enough, I didn't phrase it too well, I don't really understand why people would choose Shawshank as their favourite, yes it is an excellent film. But to me it has no singular appeal that you get with the other classics.

Gladiator is a fantastic Film

Do you mean 07?

How a film that has completely ripped off an original win an Oscar? I don't know. Bit like saying the ''Italian Job'' 2003 was so much better than the original.

Casino / Godafather 2 / remember the titans / Lord of the rings series. / Dark Knight.....cant choose!!!
However i consider myself more of a TV series kinda guy, and TV series it has to be West Wing, Sopranos or Sons of Anarchy.

As has been said already it is what THEY have chosen as their favourite film, it is a bit like saying what is your favourite colour and then saying I do not understand why you have chosen that colour. It all comes down to Opinion, as the old saying goes "One man's meat is another man's poison"

As a slight aside, I watched an excellent Guillermo Del Toro film on the telly the other night - The Devils Backbone. A beautifully shot ghost story in Spanish with English subtitles. Definitely worth a watch.

sat and watched it the other day.."where eagles dare".3 hours of boys own escapism and a fantistic theme tune:)
