Favourite Major

The Open for me too followed by Augusta as we see the same holes every year and they throw a different challenge time and again. I don't mind the US Open but the USPGA leaves me cold. There just isn't the same "major" feel that the others have

Farrah Fawcett, (well, when she was young, and alive).

The Open. The best, and only major.

US open, fair enough. Decent competition.

The USPGA, some minority tour knees up for Americans to get excited about towards the end of the season.

The Masters? No. Shouldn't even be a major. An invitation event, the weakest field of any of the 4, a course no one can ever play, protected only by stupid greens no one can putt on. Love watching it, but it should never be a major.

To me, all 4 majors should be opens, not invitations, or semi restricted to one tour.

For once Murph, I agree with you.

Gary Player, Arnie and Jack (good as they were) knobbing it around year after year and missing the cut each time, stopping some up and coming decent player from having a crack at it.
Can you imagine if they all played in the same group.
"What did you get their Jack?"
"5 for 1 Arn. Damn that three putt. Luckily I got a shot there"

The Open - don't forget the winner crownd the "Champion Golfer" for the year.

Aye, agree with that.

.......whereas there's nothing better than sitting down at 9am on the Thursday morning for 12 hours uninterrupted coverage of The Open. Bliss/.

Aye, agree with that too.

In order The Open,The US Open,USPGA,Masters......as nice as Augusta looks a major should have a bigger, stronger field and for me shouldn't be continually played around the same track. As for the USPGA,15 years back it was always seen as a bit of a nothing Major but the fact it has probably the strongest field of the 4 sees it getting an identity now.

The Masters is always good to watch. The US Open at a course like Pebble Beach is definately worth viewing. US PGA I can take it or leave it. But above them all by a long way is THE OPEN. I've been lucky enough to go to a couple at Birkdale and Hoylake and to see these guys close up is inspiring. I would love to be at St. Andrews this year. It's going to be four days full of spine tingling moments I suspect. Roll on July...

The Open for me followed by the Masters. As others have said The Masters heralds the start of the golfing year and is a compelling watch, but it cannot match The Open for me as the ultimate Golfing Major.

In order:
The Open
The Masters
The US Open
The other one

The Masters. And let the season begin...

Shame that Tiger will be there though. I think it will be the Tiger Woods show this year, no matter how he plays. We will no doubt have to watch at least an hour of his empty car parking space before he arrives, and EVERY shot that he plays, no matter how poor! I hope he doesn't make the cut coz that way we stand a chance of seeing some of the Europeans performing.

The Open for me, partly because I have a chance to actually play the courses, if we went to America, it would be a family hol, so no clubs allowed!
Then The Masters, because I can watch amen corner in work!
Then, I dont mind, I enjoy them both as I can watch golf, they hold no special significance to me, although I did enjoy watching Padraig beat Sergio in 2008 uspga!

I'm going for The Masters. It's just great telly. It's hearalds the start of the season and gets the juices flowing. Unputtable greens hah love 'em. Its great to watch the pros watch in disbelief as their balls do weird and wonderful things once they hit the greens. Just as mine do on bog standard courses.

The Open next when the weather is either shockingly poor to watch them hacking about. Loved it when Sandy walked off the wus. Or when the weather is great not seen for some years unfortunately. Remember the "Dual in the sun"

Whatever's left.

A close call as I enjoy them both. The Masters as an opener and that the season is here. The Open, because it's not in the States, links golf, the weather etc.

But what really makes a good major is a good close Sunday afternoon. No comp is enjoyable to watch if there is a run away leader.

The Open, US Open, Masters then USPGA...

however, is it not about time another major was added? I see it as plain wrong that 4 majors belong to 2 nations. Reckon it's about time they have a "global major" that is played at a course from anywhere in the world. Start it all off in Japan and go from there.
