I've gone for V12, as on the rare occasions that I'm near one in my car the window comes down and the radio off.

One other I love, but not sure what it is...
I went to watch bike racing at Donington once. Standing near the straight you'd hear all these bikes going past screaming their nuts off, then a Ducatti would come by sounding like it was on tickover in comparison. Just funny, but loved it.

Thought I'd made my mind up on this issue but I've doubts now...

All the V12 talk reminded me of a classic Aston (sincere apologies I can't remember the type - early 1960's something-or-other) I saw at a classic car race at Silverstone. Even up against sumptuous V12 Ferrari's it sounded so exciting.

Not sure I'd call it a nice sound but I witnessed top fuel dragsters for the first time this year. That took some believing even through stout ear defenders.

Ducati v-twin versus more common inline 4. Bigger cylinders make better noises. :)

My vote goes for a V12 because of the Merlin too.

I had a mid 1950s bull nose Rover 90 back in 1965 , complete silence except for the odd swish at 110 mph.
F# augmented suspended 6th i think.
But it could have been F# off.
