Faster Payments is the 'virtually instantaneous' (or at least within a couple of hours) payment system for customers of different, participating, banks. Almost all banks are now 'participating'.
There was apparently a glitch last weekend that took a couple of days to resolve and clear.
If you still have problems - or have suffered (probably automatically generated) charges because of the glitch - then you should contact your Bank.

Well, not really! But it's the automatic method equivalent to withdrawing cash from your bank and paying it into an account in another bank (or someone else doing the same to pay you).
It was brought in 2008 to supercede, for most payments, the 3 day clearing built into the BACS system. Certain limits/controls exist to detect/prevent fraud and other illegal activity.

I like that I have 4 different banks and transfer money between them instantly depending what I need at that time
