Fastest finger first. Booking tee times

I honestly cannot get my head around people thinking it’s ok to use a bot to book their tee times. It clearly isn’t equal opps because not everyone would know how to set this up or who to go to to set this up. And what if everyone did, how would this work? Bot meltdown?

Having a bot do it is clearly unethical. A bot reacts to the tee time becoming available far quicker than the human brain can react.

In the old ‘ball in a chute’ system, how would the club react if 1 player puts 3 extra balls in for their mates because they couldn’t be bothered to get there early enough? They’d get taken out and put to the back of the queue.

Seriously, some people would argue what colour the sky is.

Isn’t this sort of Bot being banned when it comes to concert tickets and driving tests.
Slightly different scenario as it’s for personal use .

Think the comittiee know this is happening but what can they do it’s not illegal.

Doesn't need to be illegal for a club to suspend someone's booking rights.

Club just need to be sufficiently annoyed.

Bit like parking in the Captain's space, not illegal, but not very polite behaviour.

Interesting that block booking a whole massive block of tee times you don’t actually need, only to release them later once you’re all sorted - so nobody else can plan their golf 7 days in advance other than you (a behaviour which IS antisocial) has attracted less ire than getting your home PC to automate 3 of the mouse clicks when you quietly book and then use a tee time same as anyone else.

Yes but we would face heavy sanctions if we persisted to park in the Captains parking place.

It’s not a visible “ crime” and most club members don’t even know you can do this never mind do it themselves.

Would suggest it’s not really a big issue as we all think - maybe in the winter with reduced tee times

The two groups I play in always appear to get the times and all other groups appear to get their times

A script is just auto-complete with bells on. Using auto-complete gives you a speed advantage over someone who chooses not to. Is anyone arguing against the use of auto-complete?
If a club decided they want to ban scripts, they would need a lawyer to draw up the definitions, or most of their members would be breaking it every time they made an online booking.

Auto fill isn't the issue, at least not on BRS. It's the first click on the tee time when it becomes available. Once you've achieved that, you've got 3 minutes to complete the players' names, during which time the slot is locked to everyone else.

Tech has been used in golf clubs for donkeys years.
I can see why people use them but can see it’s a big advantage some can’t / won’t use.
It’s more a moral question.

In my opinion the bot topic is a red herring.

The real issue is that many clubs for various reasons are oversubscribed, and therefore there are too many people competing for too few tee times. The use of bots and wouldn't even be a discussion if this scenario didn't exist, same with topics like slow play, there will always be players who are slow sure, but the impact would be felt far less if courses were less loaded.

The question then becomes would you be prepared to pay 50% higher subs to have 33% less members at your club, and more tee times available? Assuming its a straight up replacement of subs, on the one hand there might be less overhead with less members but on the other hand less supplemental income such as food and drink.

We have booked times 3 days a week (Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday) and the rest are roll up. Works very well and satisfies both camps to some extent.
If all my golf had to be booked fastest finger at x time I think I’d move clubs.
