Fascinating things

Clint Eastwood was paid $19M in 1978 for Any Which Way But Loose, the most expensive Cadillac at the time was about $17k.

It would be equivalent to about $93M today.
Apparently round about what Tom Cruise was paid for the second Top Gun film. It shows what a huge star Clint was at that time. It made a good profit so he was worth it. Cracking film.

At a time when just an actor being billed was enough to draw massive audiences.
There are still some big name players out there, Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, Tom Cruise, Adam Sandler spring to mind. All can open a film and get paid huge sums. Are they still as big a draw? Not sure, but if you google what they get paid then the studios certainly still think so.

They seem to also attract the punters at the box office

Getting anyone of those into a film no matter how bad will always get the film a profit

Not sure it’s the same now with dilution across streaming services.

I had a look at Sandler’s filmography and didn’t recognise a lot of his films then noted that they were streaming. Which seems to be the modern straight to video equivalent.

Sandler is Netflix's star man. He is on a huge retainer with them because he brings in massive numbers for them. Don't underestimate the pulling power of Sandler, particularly in the US. It's different to cinema but just as valid in this era.

I love Sandler. But as a non Netflix user I couldn’t name his recent offerings.

Thats my point, I was referencing a time being different that everyone knew Eastwoods latest film.

For some (many?) of us Ryan Reynolds is more known for what he is putting into Wrexham FC - I couldn't tell you a single film he's been in.

I would add Jason Statham and keaneau reeves also

Without being too brutal, that says more about your involvement with modern culture or cinema than Ryan Reynolds popularity. The Deadpool films are huge, massive money makers. They alone put him up near the top of the tree and that's without his other big hits.

He's superb on social media, made a fortune from his business sidelines, gin being one of them.

Reeves is a good shout.

Statham is an interesting one. He's second division, imo, but he opens films time and time again. They won't be the biggest budgets but they must make money otherwise he wouldn't keep getting the roles. He has found his niche, people watch his films, knowing they will get a Jason Statham film.

Shame his wife is supposed to be a bit of a knob

130°

That's the temp difference between the coldest & hottest place on earth at the moment (area in antartica -80° and region in iran 50°)
Oddly enough I have never fancied going to Iran but the Antarctic. Yes.
Not sure how me speedos and crocs would get much use though. ☹️

I applied for a job with the British Antarctic Survey back in 1986 when I left Uni. To this day, of all the jobs that I applied for, it is the only job that I regret not getting.

When down in the Falklands the survey ship used to dock when on the way down and the back up

Certainly seems like one heck of a job

Some of the wildlife down there is brilliant

Very surreal to be walking along the beach being followed by penguins

Was the only interview I've ever attended where I was asked..." What are you like when you are drunk?".
