It would be nice to see him shoot 18 consecutive bogeys, then get disqualified after one of his playing partners points out a rule breach after he's signed his card.

truth is I don't think many venues love hosting the Open as it means members can't play for the best part of a month. Its a nightmare but the prestige of being an Open venue carries a lot of status.

I agree, and furthermore, I think that the moment you decide not to play in an Open because you don't want to, is when your life long exemption should stop.

I guess some on here will have heard "An Audience with Sir Nick Faldo" on FiveLive last night turns out he has brought "THE JUMPER" and intends to wear it on Friday!!
Also was Swings it Like Hogan there in the audience, and did he ask the question about Faldo meeting Mr Hogan?

Faldo did more for English golf than any other before, or since. You've only got to check the number of new golf clubs that sprung up around the height of his success and this in itself made golf more freely available to the "masses".
An industry almost grew out of his success. Pringle and David Leadbetter anyone????

Like him or loathe him, his name is in the record books. Me? I love him and would rather watch him knock it around in 76 than some "no mark" journeyman shoot a 66.

I can't abide Faldo at all but I concede that he has done a lot for junior golf and has helped to popularise the game.
That aside, I think it is nice to see him playing and I hope he makes the cut.

Nope - one big regret in my life used that I had never written into Jim'll Fix It for me to meet Ben Hogan. Many times I was going to but never did. It would never have happened anyway but after the events of the last couple of years I no longer have that regret. Still wish I had been able to meet Mr Hogan - maybe he will be one of the 'Five people I will meet in Heaven' (read Mitch Albom's book)
Anyway - good luck to Mr Faldo.

They may not seem particularly welcoming, but the couple of members (not well unfortunately) have stated that they are 'happy to take their turn'. For the same reason as why the don't have a Pro on site, their members will almost certainly be members of other clubs as well, so won't miss any golf and most would normally head to their other clubs once the rough is above their tolerance level!
Muirfield and St Andrews are the 2 best venues for The Open imo. Just look at the list of winners.

Having recently watched the BBC's 1987 and 1992 broadcasts of Faldo's wins, I wish him very happy memories!
I'm certain he'll be generously applauded all the way around - as will Tom and Freddy (though I wish he wouldn't wear slippers!).
I've birdied 15 too, though I was actually on a roll of good holes until it was followed by an 8 on 16!
Some fabulous saves by Faldo in 1992 and some absolutely wonderful putting by Azinger, only to 'blow up' on the last 2 holes!
