Love him or loath him the greatest Englishman to ever play the game says this could be his last Open Championship. I think people forget how good this guy actually was in his prime, sadly Nick says he'll be lucky to make the cut but it be great if he does a Watson :D

he's playing with Watson and Freddy, that's a 3 ball I'll be following round the course:thup:

no doubt the naysayers will be posting soon about how much they loathe him............yeah we get it.........now move over for us real golf fans who appreciate the outstanding achievements Sir Nick has done in his career...:whoo::thup:

I'm not really sure why he's playing anyway, probably just for nostalgia's sake.
By his own admission he hasn't hit a competitive shot in 3 years so he has little chance of making the weekend....
Big fan of the Man but, for me, just because he's allowed to play it doesn't automatically mean that he should..

Him and Seve are the 2 reasons I picked up my first club as a kid, probably more Faldo than Seve in fact. I love the fella and I'm currently reading his book. Yes he could be a narky sole but lots of great sportsman are. They have a focus that sets them apart from us mere mortals.

Plus, he sent me a birthday card when I was little and his handwriting is just the same as me mum's so there.

I agree, big fan of Faldo but he shouldn't be playing. It's the same as the masters, these guys should have to prove some kind of recent form before being allowed to play. I can understand why he wants to sign out at Muirfield and I guess it's a "nice" story.

LOL, sweet!

Faldo was class on the golf course, very single minded.
Look at the Open venues and Muirfield has probably got the the best winners list [apart from Alf Perry] and Faldo has won twice there.
I watched him put his 18 par final round together and that was one of the best rounds of golf completed. He clearly was off form that day but ground out a brave win.

Mixed feelings on this, I think he is great, always followed him and has done so much good for the game, a true hero to many.

So to see him play in the open and a good chance him missing the cut, I think it would be a sad way to end his last open.

To be fair even if he didn't play this time he would have missed the cut in his last 2 Opens.

Going to be a while yet before another Englishman gets near his 6 majors (Justin Rose currently in the lead in that chase!)

Sad to see but he's made his decision to turn his efforts towards TV punditry (in the main)

Any player who still has the option to play is going to jump at the chance when a course with so much personal history comes up!

I have no qualms about this. Plenty of others have been allowed a swansong at their favourite major and as Faldo is a two time winner at the venue then why not. I like the guy a lot and was lucky enough to watch him and Lyle play a round at Royal Wimbledon and talk to the guy. He was good fun and very funny. Gave me a few tips. Also helped with a charity auction I did too so nothing but good things to say about him

I have got mixed feelings, Love the sentiment of some of the past winners playing but in reality Faldo hasn't played for years and admits he probably wont make the cut so he is taking the place of some hopeful that could actually win enough money to keep their card for next season.

My golfing hero, and the reason I started playing. It's probably a nice way for him to say goodbye to The Open and the people who recognise class when they see it. I hope he makes a decent fist of it, but even if he doesn't he'll still have my full support.

Nick Faldo is arguably the greatest British golfer in history. Only Harry Vardon won more majors. So if he wants to bow out at the open venue that means the most to him, whats the problem?
How many on here begrudged Jack doing the same at St. Andrews ?
The Open is our major, and if our greatest living exponent of the game wants to sign off at his favourite venue good luck to him.
I for one, only wish i could be there to witness it.

I'm pretty ambivalent about Faldo - however he was a magnificent golfer. So good luck Nick and I hope that you make reasonable fist of your two rounds.

..and who would you PAY to go and see?

Fantastic player,

If this is to be his swansong, I hope he plays well. Good luck Nick Faldo.

None of this nonsense about him taking a space up, no he's not. He's entitled to play there. No questions about it.

Be great if he makes the cut :-)

That's exactly why I have mixed feelings. Faldo every time but he even admits he probably wont make the cut so is he taking the place of someone that may do well.
